CODE: From the Perspective of a Non-Miner

Whos trying to bully now, Riddles?

Well I didn’t use the S word again.

But I got to admit, I am not very nice when someone just dumps a steaming pile of alternate facts down and starts asking everyone to behold the beautiful golden bricks they think they just laid.

A friend of mine pointed out I have no tolerance for the Dunning-Kruegers among us, and he was right.

But the code of silence is free to anyone who has no idea what they are talking about. School is definitely a place where one has had every chance to learn when they are out of their element. And when they can’t figure it out, I issue reminders.

So while I may be a bit of a bully, I have much more than my own selfish amusement in mind when I am.

Thank heavens this wise sage appeared to guide us out of the darkness when he did, for surely we would have been lost without his gift of knowledge, doomed to tread these ancient EVE meme circular arguments for the rest of eternity.

This is roleplay, right?

Was that imagination or LSD?

My experience with CODE is a bit different. I’ve seen both some of their worst and some of their best. This is my first interaction with CODE, and I was fighting rats at the time and in addition to that had begun to recall my drones and warp out upon seeing them lock me. I was definitely not AFK. He said nothing in chat and destroyed my Venture. This was before I knew what CODE was, and my first thought was “man what a loser.” His ship was legions more expensive than mine, too. The more I heard about CODE, with that dude as my only reference point, the more I thought of them as pathetic. I later bought a permit.

The dude who destroyed my Venture during my first thirty minutes of play was kicked from CODE the day after, and it was CODE members who pointed this out to me. When I explained what the guy had done, they said in response (and I quote) “that might be why he’s not in CODE anymore.” I went and bought a permit after because it was proven to me that the people who do the CODE thing, even if I do not agree with CODE in general, hold to their own standards and/or punish the people who don’t.

CODE seems to leave Ventures alone. I can fly my Venture through/around Jita, mine at the belts and remain completely unscathed by anything but the rats… and this was before getting the permit. Their main targets seem to be ships like the Mackinaw: expensive, flashy, and pointless unless you’re rich (in which case you can handle that loss anyway.)

I still think CODE draws in PvP limp-dicks that can barely PvE, but I also think that CODE believes in what they do and that’s why they weed those people out. The people ‘memeing’ by creating corps with ‘holier-than-thou’ names to destroy frigates and pod the newbie inside are the ones doing exactly what they’re supposedly making fun of, and this then gets mistaken for the real thing. It’s quite like Poe’s Law.

Oh, and to put an end to this, let me pull out the dictionary to help define what ‘griefing’ is: harassment with intent to irritate another player. By this definition, it’s safe to say that a lot of what the neo-CODE players (i.e. the ones that get booted from CODE) do would qualify as griefing, but whether or not it’s a punishable offense individually is up to CCP. I do not think CODE themselves qualify as griefers, however.

i was  about the mining gnosis
then i checked zkill
nice loki run bro
you even killed a horde cruiser solo GZ
i bet it was fun

He’s not just talk man. He can also shoot. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Come on, you probably lost a barge tech I, nothing to serious

I’ve never lost anything to code toads, and never will. Some of us don’t need to step in manure before we recognize it’s shyte.

I think you lost your dignity.
