yeah i dunno, i dunno how the sistem will perform, will it utilize all those cores? will you need that many cores? if you disable SMT and go with 64 cores you will get a tiny bit more performance…
well, it also depends on licensing model for the database server, sometimes ppl go with a cpu with like 12/24 cores, those cpu’s often have very high single-core performance, like 3,7GHz and then they license fewer cores… depends on the load
in the near future we’ll also test more traditional setups - dual socket, 8 core CPU’s from intel/amd - this will match our current 32 cores, with as you say, max cpu performance.
We’ll do a devblog later and have more info on what we’re measuring with more cores/less numa nodes, etc…
And licensing is a giant thing
Well this time i can say goodjob on the notice, won’t be mad even if they are around the only hours of those 2\3 days i can play eve this week
Yep, they wonder why company’s are still clinging to Server 2008/2012 etc… because the pricing is absurd, and you updated it to be even more expensive (Talking both OS and Software solutions, blame spreads across entire base)
/minirantover
yeah, cant help u much with that… :S i’m just glad you went with a rackmount server instead of using blade sistems… with blade chassis you are very very limited on the choice of blade servers you can install… yeah it’s a high density solution, yeah you can pack a lot of CPUs and RAM into small surface, but i like the freedom of beeing able to go the store and just buy a normal server, a server wich is “something new” in IT world… aaand it will cost much less than a blade server
Beautiful

@CCP_DeNormalized i just want to know, will this reduce TiDi???, we have war incoming
No, I don’t think so The DB typically isn’t a bottleneck in big fights. But this will likely help with slowness for the first while post-startup and also on busy weekends the current DB struggles.
Market is one of the big things that should be snappier with this type of change
Nah. TRS-80, all the way.
I see unpopulated slots. I am thoroughly disappointed.
i second this thats porn full out and out … 30 suspension for you … unless … shh … we see more …
i reckon each slot holds 32gb ddr4 2666 mhz totaling 512 and the reason for the empty slots its a dual cpu server and you are only using one.
you should take all those cables and flog the people who created that mess.
No wonder we have lag
Market performance improvement, asset search and system load times would be highly appreciated.
Well it will be interesting to see how market is improved.
Will the issue with combat sound effects being muted be corrected? I was told it has something to do with Windows 7.
this is 16x128gb modules for 2 tb it would have been 4 tb of memory but the vendor said all 256gb chips were sold out worldwide.
but correct on the dual sockets / unused memory slots
it would of been REALLY interesting to have the other socket populated the same - 128/256 ht cores and 4 tb of memory, hmmm!
