Bowhead

A ship that was requested/designed by the community and accepted with all the hazards that went with flying a ship carrying ship with no weapons of its own. Used by the incursion communities as well as Operation Magic School Bus its utilitarian design shows that it is all about getting its specific job done.

Macharial

This ship holds a special meaning for me as I have lost two of them to wife aggro, over the years. I am now afraid to fly them as they seem to cause the ‘honey, can you come here a moment?’ call that ends in a wreckage and a floating corpse upon my return. Gorgeous ships and a mission runners dream but just not something I dare fly anymore.

Scorpion

The only ship that truly looks like its namesake and has fulfilled a number of tasks over the years. I flew a jamming Scorpion in the early Incursion fleets, before we knew the ‘best way’ to fight them. The willingness to experiment, to solve and to grow. THAT is the fun part. Following a set path already beaten flat by others? Not for me.

Bowhead

A bunch of devs grinding away, getting that bread and the ideas carried out to be sold to the masses. Why bother even naming the office off a combat ship. An office named Stabber? Rifter? those are just words without any meaning. All these combat ships do not sound like a good fit for a room where people gather and talk about stuff. If anything, the names need to be carrier ships or industrial. Since Eve is a game and gaming is part of “the industry”. If anything, Bowhead and Providence, Obelisk sound more fitting.

Bowhead, a good strong name. 2 syllables, recognizable, and very stable. If people don’t know what it really is (bowhead whale), they’ll think its some part of a ship, like poopdeck or starboard. Also, a sci-fi industrial paint job for the meeting room would make it look pretty cool.

Machariel
Because she made me rich, most of my ISKs were obtained using her to complete the Angel Naval Shipyard. I really like Machariel’s high maneuverability and high damage, and she is also very handsome. I have several of her paintings.

Megathron.

The Megathron holds a special place in my hanger as my ship of choice for, well, damn near anything. I have pushed the hull to it’s absolute limitations time after time and it has never failed to live up to the challenge. From drag racing frigates to slugging it out with titans the ship has managed, with some creativity, to do it all. It has also had a profound impact on how I play the game, challenging me to come up with new and interesting ways to adapt. From dronelands to delve, from Iceland to Vegas the Megathron has taken me to places I never expected. I owe all of my success in EVE to this ship.

Stratios
I think we can all agree that the Stratios is one of New Eden’s most iconic hulls. It’s design is stunning and it’s versatility is exceptional. My favorite memory of this great ship is from a recent hunting trip to Detorid. I was cloaked off the system’s in gate, d-scanning for VNIs and a fellow Stratios pilot came in system and warped straight to the system’s star. Eager for a 1v1 opportunity I warped to sun at zero and decloaked hoping he would have carelessly made the obvious move.

I landed and he was decloaked! I immediately scrammed and webbed him, and my drones got to work. I was active armor tanked, and it quickly became clear that he was shield buffer… With neuts. He had the advantage in DPS but I started popping drugs, Hardshell and Mindflood - and I had the initial advantage since he needed to wait his decloak timer… I needed to overheat a lot to keep my reps up but I managed to win the fight by a narrow margin. Unfortunately, as he died his buddy in a ceptor landed and pointed me and seconds later a Supercarrier landed and killed me… This is Eve!

Legion

Proud as a peacock, my very green Amarrian main pilot got into a Legion early on. I did not know how to fly or fit it properly at first, but I only lost one once, during a DED complex run with our corp. A connection glitch had prevented me from issuing any commands. An overly kind GM replaced the ship following the petition I had typed with shaky hands only minutes after I sat, half in shock, staring at my screen. The Horror of the Loss, we all have to go through it !. Although he forgot to replace the lost skill points I was more than happy I still had my precious Legion.

The alliance we were flying for in nullsec prohibited us from flying tech 3 cruisers in their space, because of the Almighty Killboard stats, and the SRPennypinching (we thought, ignorantly). So regularly I snuck back to hisec, to fly my Legion. Piloting it became a nerdy love affair, a guilty pleasure, like sneaking out of school during the breaks, which i also did daily, decades ago.
In those days it was considered the weakest in its class but there was this one heavy pulse and faction mod fit that allowed “us Legionnaires” to run C3 sleeper sites solo… I tried it, and of course loved it. The exhilaration of going on adventures with one of these sophisticated ships outshone any furious alliance responses to any eventual loss. No losses occurred however, I had built up more than average experience in flying below the radar and taking precautions.

Times have changed. After a fairly successful overhaul the Legion is now considered one of the strongest tech3’s. At last the Amarrians can boast about having at least one hull that can compete successfully with all the others and for that I thank the developers. Other things changed too, my old alliance now loses ships worth billions. Perhaps flying a Legion is now acceptable to them. Maybe they even have a doctrine. It’s time to get back and find out. Maybe there is new nullsec life for a nerdy covops, blackops, bomb dropping bastard who loves flying his Legion perhaps even more.

Legion, the name itself is romantically mysterious and ominous, the ship a reflection of its loaded name, the class a hidden complexity within a complex game, a name befitting a meeting room, a place of inspired and balanced decision making. Meet safe. o7.

NIGHTMARE

This is what happens when demented shipbuilders create powerful battleships.

Sabre

One of the most Used, Killer and Destroyed ships in nullsec systems. Fast and Furious.

When you see “Bubbles” in space, you know there will be some content and Sabres!

Heron

Some capsuleers dream of their own mighty Titan. Others prefer their high-tech T2/T3 ships.

All I ask, is a Heron.

By the richness she found, she turned the poor rookie I was into a wealthy capsuleer.
Through the wormholes she explored, she brought me to the most isolated and guarded places of New Eden.
Through the chains she mapped, she provided safe and fast travel to many fleets.
Through the solar systems she scouted, she found fighting opportunities for my corpmates.

Many pilots only see an unattractive beginner ship in the Heron. To me, she is the ship of my adventures, a ship of opportunities, and shall remain so as long as I wander New Eden.

RAGNAROK

In my mind what an actual space ship will look like, also an awesome name

Heron

This New player friendly exploration ship was a ship that has always been near and dear to my heart. I still to this day use the Heron when I do not want to risk using my Helios. I learned how to scan with the Heron and used it as my primary scanning ship for Data and Relic sites first in Hisec then later on in Low and Null.
This ship is what I have seen many of New Edens incredible sights to see in. If you are looking to nominate a ship for one of the most impressionable on new players it is this one for me. When you can hop in this little ship and scan out one of the most impressive sites in the game such as the wormholes it raises the hair on your arms as a new player when you first hit the “Enter Wormhole” Button. Fly safe and explore everything in this glorious ship.

Astero
Versatility. The great thing about this ship is it can make you money or force someone else to lose theirs. It’s sneaky when fit with a cloak or plain all out aggressive if fitted with a neut. Float around hacking sites , de-fang you’re opponent or do neither and just enjoy the sites; the choice is yours.

Executioner

Because CCP is very good at executing development.

Gila

Because it is effective, capable, and punches above its weight class. Sure it isn’t the biggest, but it is quick and efficient. A couple droning on something with a focused approach hopefully will put the issue to bed, permanently.

Hulk

In all its mining glory this ship has always been one of my all time favorites. I remember first getting into the game and wanting to be a dwarf (as I do in every game i play). I started to mine and set my skill queue to reach my goal of the Hulk!. I still after 13 years of game play remember the feeling I got when I was able to hop in my first Hulk. It was fantastic to watch the ship tear through the asteroids and mine all that rich ore that we could use to later build more Hulks.
Sitting in a cockpit and training those three lasers on a asteroid and seeing it mine was one of the most rewarding experiences in my eve online career. As the years have gone by the ship has changed now to only have 2 lasers. However I still prefer this mean machine over any of the other mining ships in the game when it comes to speed and efficiency. Fly safe and Mining everything you see!!

Buzzard

“Out in the inky darkness of space. Through a wormhole to an unknown place.

Seeking riches in the deafening silence. Heart pounding, expecting violence.

Probes out and scanning the system. No one home (unless I missed them).

Warp in and start cracking the code. Open! And I hit the mother lode.

143m in loot, Bob are you joking? Then the sound of a proteus uncloaking.”

-Daytrippers Lament

Wormholes opened up parts of Eve I had never visited. First from high sec into busy class 1 and 2’s, before making a home in low and daytripping across the universe. The excitement of collecting millions in loot and then dodging defence fleets to smuggle my precious cargo home in my Buzzard is something I find myself drawn back to time and time again.
