Safety is 80% Aiko killing their own alts. If zkillboard were to recognise those kills as padding, their alliance would look far more inactive.
I was watching their killboard recently and it looks like there are only 3 or 4 actual people left that still do stuff.

Despite their much touted ability to adapt, it seems that improved tanks on mining barges and exhumers applied previously and now with the latest patch

But all the miners were actually up in arms about the changes. I myself stopped mining in a Procurer the moment the ‘time to warp’ almost doubled…and have not mined in one since. If there’s less ganking of barges it may well be because there’s less barges, than because gankers find it harder.

To me the changes were a good thing…as they finally got me out of mining and training up for ‘proper PvP’ skills. This is why ganking is essential…in addition to ganking providing ‘something to fight’. Of course AG will never ever defeat ganking, but it is useful content creation trying.

Cilla. You can’t sum up barges by solely referencing the procurer. Which of the 6 barges/exhumers stayed the same in tank and got a bit slower.

The other two barges got significant EHP buffs and in the case of the 3 exhumers the EHP buffs are beyond ridiculous. You could get more EHP on a skiff than you could on some battleships (they may have changed as a result of the BS buffs this week).

I have 68K EHP on a mackinaw and that is still fitted with 2 mining laser upgrades. So its not like I’m making much sacrifices in terms of yield to get to that level.

While you didn’t like the changes and you stopped mining as a result……it doesn’t negate the fact that ganking miners became significantly harder as a result of the December patch.

It’ll be interesting as I feel now smaller blinged ships will be more of a target.

I also think just gotta adjust fleet comp for dessie gank fleets. Will need a lot of more lazors to get the shield guys.

The tanks have had an impact. I know the issue with alignment time and of course top speed, but outside of hisec I use a Prospect or an Endurance.

I was happy for the BS buff, not because of Marauders being ganked, but because I thought that this ship class was under tanked.

Well I can, because the entire reason I bought the Procurer was because of the good EHP. The entire basis of the barges available before the changes was that you could choose between tank or capacity or speed. Thus I chose a Procurer and got it to 72K EHP.

All the changes did was to remove much of the difference between the barges, whilst nerfing the Proc warp time to a ridiculous degree. I could not stand the new 18 second warp time.

These days I occasionally mine in a ‘throw away’ 300K Venture. It’s never gonna pay for my increasing spending, but it tops up my ISK a little bit while the rest comes from PLEX.

I’m glad the changes moved me away from mining. I moved on to trading…but I’m even getting bored of that. It’s time to do what I joined the game for…

Not when the entire basis of a choice was a substantive difference between the three.

Procurer was the tankiest. Still is.
Retriever was the one with the big hold. Still is
Convetor is the best yield. Still is.

The crux of the change was that the retriever and conveyor before patch were paper thin and unviable in a lot of cases. The patch made them more attractive.

So the choice remains exactly the same. Just the convetor and retriever are actually viable now.

You can AFK-mine with nearly guarateed safety if you just do it in some area that’s out of the way of hubs and main travel routes. Just go somewhere in Placid or Derelik or some obscure part of Domain and have at it.

The EHP of the procurer and the skiff are still better than the others, but they over did the align time and nerfed the speed too much, typical CCP, really…

I am an occasional miner, in that I do it not to make ISK to to save myself from spending ISK or in terms of projects or objectives. I find the Prospect and Endurance pretty much meet my requirements outside of hisec and I would suggest that you look into that at some point. If you get caught in them then you will die, however they are very good to use so you do not get caught. Best advice I can give you is don’t become stuck in a routine or be too obvious.

There is a lot more to this game than hisec.
