Dev blog: Balance Changes Coming In The March Release

That’s actually a pretty cool idea.

Thanks. When I perposed it like 2 years ago, the trolls where foaming at the mouth.

The troll’s hate any type of change because they are incapable of it.

I disagree - I think ccp should not generally be in the balance business - ccp should just be giving us the tools and the sandbox should balance the game.

Please explain in detail how the sandbox balance’s the game everyone will find something completely broken and everyone will use it and complain about it and then who fixes it? Some AI that’s in-charge of balancing xD? lol

Although the Idea of AI having access to combat data making analysis and constantly adjusting module’s/ship’s (±1 stat at a time so people don’t notice) sounds pretty epic although maybe 100 years from now in tech lol.

It won’t. The mass of players will, like the infinite monkeys on infinite typewriters, figure out the optimal tool for each purpose through sheer brute force, and then we will use them to such gleeful excess upon everyone else that people will beg the devs to get back into the business of providing a balanced game.

So, looking at the post above:

The balance of such a game like EVE probbaky was one one time much easier. Yet!, CCP added more and more stuff (ships and modules etc).

Now - take my idea of most/same modules being
Low Slot = Passive local
Mid Slot = Active Local
High Slot = Remote/Not Local

The thing would then come down to CCP setting some ground rules for themselves to focus on.

Example of a focus -
Tank:
Passive = Amarr and Caldari
Active = Minmatar and Gallente

I have seen people complain about passive armor reps as an option. Passive shield rep boosters take away from cap recharge amount, a passive armor rep could work the same way, consume cap recharge amount. So shields would still naturally recharge, armor would still need a rep module to work but if in a low slot it passively reps (numbers adjusted accordingly). Players would need to fit to counter cap reduction.

I would type more, but I need to sleep. Above words are food for thought.

They quite simply do not have the staff to do that anymore.

I wonder when the rest of the modules get a balance pass. It has been only 2 years now and we even helped them along.

Not saying it has to be like a rushed job. Like most other major patches, take a year or two and work it all out. Isn’t that what the balance team is suppose to do?

Perhaps they can finish this time - unlike the module pass.

I think lots of small incremental patches are the way to go in a game this complex. There are always unforeseen issues that happen and the shorter the interval between iterations the less the impact of issues.

I have removed a few off topic posts, and those replying to them.

Well I hope you at least poked someone to take a look at that guy’s issue, instead of just driving him to take it to reddit in a less constructive manner.

Worry not. A DM was sent in regards to the players issues.

Awesome news, thank you very much.

Hey, I have two Hulks mothballed because they can easily get ganked and cost too much. You either need to increase the hitpoints so it’s harder to gank or reduce the cost to the same level of the other cheep miners. Can’t even sell them anymore.
Shame too, I enjoy trying to max out the mining capacity, but now have to go for half the cycles/isk just to operate. Takes away a good part of the game for me.

The small changes are focused on the current play/meta. Which yeah they could change a number here and there, but some ships are still forgotten. But a planned large patch where they can shake up everything (hopefully in a good way) would/should get them to look at the ships they keep over looking (at least in some people’s eyes). Means they could also rehash the empire traits/themes like they did to the pirate factions a few years back all in one go. If all subs caps was to much, then they would have to break it into three parts at least (frigates and destroyers, cruisers and battle cruisers, then battleships) which doesn’t bother me as much a they could set the smaller ships where they want them, and then balance the larger ships to fit.

CCP like TIDI - More Drones = More TIDI.

MORE drones is just what is needed in large fights.

I hope so.

What I would like to happen soon-ish is that at least some meta-modules get the refresh-treatment like the modules for capitals have.

Would even be something for alpha-noobs.

So far capitals have many useful meta-modules that could translate to subcapital ones quite easy:

  • the tracking gun
  • the better range gun (scoped)
  • the capacitor friendly gun (enduring)
  • the better fitting one (compact)

Some thing for shield boosters, armor reps and remote reps:

  • a scoped one (remote only, for more range)
  • an enduring one for better cap
  • a compact one that fits better

Then see how this affects EVE and with that other changes to ships.

Yea would be great if each meta module had a purpose something similar to the mwd’s, mwd’s are perfect atm.
