Oh dear, now I see who it is. I’m terribly sorry, but considering your established posting history of always finding someone to repetitively disagree with regardless of research, argumentation or perspectives, I don’t think I want to spend the energy entertaining what will only end up in trolling.

You have been provided arguments, references, you could choose to do the research. Instead you just keep beating the same drum like in many other topics.

Have a nice day.

It seems to me that when a successful company buys another company, the usual expectation is that the company doing the buying is going to want to get a decent financial return on their investment and the sooner, the better. When push comes to shove, the amount of money to be made and how quickly is what usually seems to drive most big business deals in today’s real world. Is this what is happening now with my favorite universe, the absolute masterpiece that we all call Eve Online?

If so, I am very very worried. Because the financial powers of this world seldom care about Art, they usually only care about making more fast money any way that they possibly can. If Big Business didn’t care mostly about making money, they probably wouldn’t be Big Business much longer and would almost surely be quickly replaced with someone or something that did care mostly about making money.

Will this masterpiece that is Eve Online still be here in six months or a year? Or five years? Or will whoever actually pays the electric bill that powers all the very expensive hardware and software that runs the beautiful Eve Universe eventually blow everything up? Then Salvage whatever wrecks are left? And then throw the all the floating junk in the Reprocessor to make a quick profit?

And then everyone walks away forever because there is nothing left except some money in someone’s wallet somewhere.

Or will Eve manage to somehow survive all this and grow and evolve into something even more amazing and unique and fascinating and incredible? You choose.

CCP. It is imperative that you must understand something. I see it would be disheartening to see your long term close investors to leave and sell off their stock like, cattle perhaps. So the need for new investors would be required. However, my first thought,. Eve is not a game which millions play. Its is more then that. It is complex and NOT dumbed down for others. You either understand it, or you don’t. I love the complexity and the nerd level of Eve (re-implement rads/sec for instance) So CCP operating without compromise is first. Meaning Pearl Abyss can act no more then investors. However if they own CCP, why would their unwanted input not be forced into Eve? Second thought: with all of CCP’s and Eve’s accomplishments, are they benefiting from their purchase of CCP. How much benefit will they receive from our accomplishments. To me it sounds like a lot. In-fact, I think we will be giving them more then we are getting. Next thought: Eve can be cruel. We don’t hold back. Unlike other game MMO’s we say, do and function in almost a wildwest/risk/reward/pvp thing. MMO’s that focus more on PVE is concerning. With this decision CCP, We will be watching.

Marketing 101: Know your clients desires, needs and values.

You assume people, especially gamers, globally, want the same.

They demonstrably do not.

You cant even market water, which everything needs to live, the same, globally.

You too bro.
No hard feelings.
I enjoyed the exchange, and you made many good points.

The old player data isn’t really valid anymore. These days it’s based on accounts, not humans. Which kinda says a lot. It’s only when there’s a PR focus that even CCP still refers to magic numbers of humans.

Anyway. With a bit under 40 million in cash CCP is not in a bad position to push revenue. It’ll be a while until conditions surface where PA begins providing strategic targets. Until that time, people meeting people and ideas rubbing off will provide the influencing.

Sure, the focus is on milking. But it’s milking accounts. EVE already has a lot less warm bodies today than it did two years ago. But it has more accounts. And that has compensated quite well for less warm bodies. These days you can see more than 20% of eve’s humans in a single drama battle in nullsec easily. That is very different from in the past. But they all run multiple accounts, they all run various types of character farms.

So yeah, the amount of humans matters very little. The amount of profit matters purely.

If they are willing to fully buy a company for 425m and rework matters to suit their business model, those differences mean nothing to CCP Games but do mean business , potential profit, and risk of loss, if not taken into consideration with the right aspect (ratio) to the owner.

There would be differences if CCP Games were a partnership, but it is still relevant, except not relevant to CCP Games, if they are out of the business.

That would create conflicts to create something that would not work/cater to both, but that is their own business if they want to do that.

Well, have a good time, both.
Let’s see how long this goes on.
EVE Online would not end with CCP Games for that matter, no matter what, after this.
They may be able to get the system back, but would it be worth it, and how?
As with the rest, most of what was not used in transferable skills will be lost, or forfeited, unless otherwise protected and cared for.

I wonder how the big faction guys are reacting to that news … ?
End of their monopol ?

Nope, because after every account there must be player who may wish to spend money on the game (no matter the model), so how do you want to milk accounts? It would need to made game of alts necessary. Data shows that alts are very rare in EvE. We all own them but rarely play on both or all of them in the same time.

If you mean nullsec? Those by far and large have already normalised F2P concepts and drink the koolaid. Or quafe. Same thing here.

It’s boiling frogs.
