Dev blog: Black Desert Online makers Pearl Abyss to acquire CCP!

I can’t, Im an adult ffs …

So on my first day back after being gone for 2 weeks I click this thread notification and wasted a lot of precious time reading every single reply posted in it. Seen a lot of Chicken Little’s running around screaming ‘The sky is falling, the sky is falling.’

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Obviously it’s gonna be quite a while before any changes are implemented so there’s no reason to go off half cocked and immediately quit the game. I will continue my Omega subscription and enjoy playing this game as I have for the past 10 years, I’m definitely not going to worry about something I have no control over that may or may not happen.

:expressionless:

Now if what all the Doomsayers say does actually happen and the game no longer has any appeal for me, then I’ll definitely follow suit and quit as well. Until that happens, I will remain hopeful that the acquisition of CCP will help make Eve Online even better.

They don’t make 'em like that anymore…

Niche doesn’t mean it’s unsuccessful. Ferrari and Lamborghini are also niche. EVE is fifteen years old. It is VERY successful, not just for a niche game, but for an MMO in general. Popularity =/= quality and is no measure of success.

Never let your inner child go, ever. For that is the moment you’ll become a dead husk of an adult.

Then just man or woman up and embrace your sensitive side and fly around, with or without tears and people’s reactions be damned.

Alternatively, just grab a coworker and set the stage as if that is a child you are playing with giving you not only the opportunity to indulge, but simultaneously impressing female coworkers in your ability to like and deal with children, potentially resulting in a fun office affair.

Do make sure however that if there is no child handy, the coworker you use is suitably small so that it looks like a child. I am trying really hard to not introduce a pun towards a certain CCP staff member at this point while keeping a straight face but anyway moving right along …

Oh dear, even Mandalore taking the piss out if this with that changed video title.

But EVE and CCP was not sustainable for their former owners.

The CSM’s, ya know, US players, are excited about the change, so why does every bittervet gotta be a debbie downer??

First of all, that’s an assumption.

Secondly, even if it’s true, it’s irrelevant. Success can be defined in many ways, and EVE still sets the benchmark for open-world PVP sandbox games.

Why is their geopolitical location relevent?

The CSM does not exist for players. It’s a signals and messaging instrument by CCP, for CCP. It was pretty tough at Fanfest this and (!) last year to see CCP’s management state this quite clearly, with everyone hearing it, except the CSM members. How peculiar.

Folks, put your questions to the AMA topic here.

because its not exactly something to be excited about and well
csm members could be viewed as being somewhat sycophantic

RIP Eve

Technically, CCP is already there.

BDO’s PVP Cloak = Buy PLEX, use PLEX to buy ships/equipment well outside your ISK-earning curve ((Like I could fly a fully fit Titan if I wanted to. I don’t have the ISK for it, but a quick CC swipe and I’d have the funds.))

BDO’s Cosmetics = Ship skins. ((Not opposed to this, in fact they might expand the skins to structures and move it beyond ‘skins’ to actual appearance changes (ie spikes, ship hauls strapped to your ship).))

My fear is they might change the permanent SKINs to only work with active subs, much like BDO’s unlimited dying works. Sure if you have the dyes you can permanently dye your character regardless of sub status, but if you use the ‘unlimited dye system’ then it only works with an active sub. Since EVE doesn’t have this, I could see those Temp SKINs working regardless of sub status, but permanent SKINs requiring a sub to use.

Also, for anyone wondering, just look at how WoW changed after the Activision merger. The first ‘true’ post-merger expansion was Cataclysm; both TBC and Wrath were already deep in development at the time of the merger.

I read there’s bonuses for beating Expected Earnings…so you can expect a more “robust” Cash Shop going forward. - The $425 million includes both cash and a bonus earnout if certain financial targets are met.(reference: https://venturebeat.com/2018/09/06/black-desert-online-creator-pearl-abyss-acquires-eve-online-maker-ccp-games-for-425-million/)

Skins are coming to structures

OK they will get Trophy for that

INB4 AT price ships will be sold as premiums.

Nah, that won’t happen. You will however see … interesting … things based on enchantment mechanics, rng transmogs, instanced gameplay and such. It will be a few business cycles before other stuff starts to pop up.

Oh I know PA, I’m quite familiar with their…compromises, with sacrificing game’s playability for mere cash crabs.

Oh and believe me, they will find a way to capitalize on Limited Edition ships. Just like they will find a way to ■■■■ up fitting, industry and manufacturing.
