Dev blog: Clone States - The Next Steps

Yes, but they have to pay for skill injectors, either isk or by selling PLEX.

What part of Eve do you have to pay real world money for? Time and playing can grind ISK, ISK can buy PLEX, PLEX unlocks the “full game”. Paying real world money is not required.

This argument could have been made before that it was hard to grind the PLEX cost in 14 days, so you had to pay at least once. But now grinding the ISK for PLEX each month is not hard once you are Omega, and grinding the first month of Omega has an unlimited time in which you can grind for free. No one has to pay real world money for any part of Eve.

Hi . Spaceship Command should be at IV, as it is a requirement for those BS skills.

It’s strange that you have allowed Battleships (so alphas can grind great amount of bounties) but still won’t let them train T1 Mining Barges.
It’s even more strange in the light of recently added Resource Wars - you added content for miners, but locked free players out of its part.

Anybody else getting 20,443,992 instead of 20,443,989 total? Typo or bad math?

Im sorry but i dont get it.
You state people dont want to sub and that your extending the skills. But you can only train free up to 5mil skill points after that you still need to pay either by OMEGA or skill injectors which in most cases they still have to buy a plex… so i dont get how you think expanding skills makes any difference because to get past 5 mill SP they still have to pay in someway or another

Edited. Did not see missile specs since they were listed as gunnery skills

you are correct

no and its the same for app games on mobiles, yet they make millions by micro transaction, because people dont want to grind they want instant upgrades etc. thats exactly what ccp is doing.

Better than previously. But the argument I made back when the Alphas were first introduced still stands - for Alphas to be viable longer term they need a niche where they can be on a level field with paying players.

My argument back then that this should be frigates, including T2 frigates and allowing a full rack of level 5 skills to be trained for these. Because there is enough frigate specific content, like L1 wormholes, faction warfare (to some degree) and burner missions.

Skimming over the skill list the fitting skills are still sub par (not even AWU 4 or full capacitor skills, for example), the T2 weapon skills do not get even to L4, etc etc. So it’s better than before. It will probably retain newbies a bit longer. But it’s not a long term viable condition for a player to be.

I get the feeling that is exactly what CCP want.

(which is logical, they want subscribers / people that pay real monies for the game)

Well - if they want to wrap it in ‘free to play’ the free player would need to be viable in some niche. The current version just seems to walk down the same path. A better trial.

I’ll give them that this new skillset is at least theoretically capable of amassing enough isk to buy a PLEX because it can do PvE at approximately half the speed of an Omega. Either L4 missions or anoms in null null would be possible now with low efficiency and using more expensive hardware.

You’re still here.

Because someone has to pay. If they’re injecting they’re at least pulling PLEX out of the market. The problem is when no PLEX is consumed at all.

clearly you don’t understand my message and the idea behind this entire dev blog

All this skills can be learned by the alpha char for free up to 5m skill points.
But they can learn ice harvesting but can’t learn a ship that can use any ice lasers at all.

No amount of skill injektors will help in this situation.

You’re correct. I misunderstood your post.

So clarify for me. New people either quit or sub right away, right? Before they max out their alpha SP? Then why would giving them more of something they don’t really want anyway convince them to stick around? Unless this is the smallest part of a bigger push to make the game more fun, I don’t see how this will have more than the slightest effect.

I also got 20,443,992 when copy/pasting into excel

Is the skill list at the bottom of that blog post in error? The total stated in the blog post is 20,443,989 but adding up all the skills they listed in excel came to 20,443,992.

Also some skills are missing entirely. Notably Reactions, which alphas can already train to 1 (and I was hoping they could train to 2 with the new changes).

This is priceless.

Approximately one year later:

EVE Online becomes even free-er…er!

Alpha Clone state went from Joseph Stalin Mode to slightly less so. Let us fly up to cruisers. Can’t use Tech II modules on Cruiser hulls. No logic. You can now fly up to Battleships. No Tech II modules for BS hulls. I wonder when they’ll realize that people who want to strictly be Alphas realize that paying for this “game” is like paying a monthly fee to play with a Ball in a Cup. I log in once a month, maybe do some missions or whatever else this vaporware has on offer. Then i forget about it.
