I see what you mean about there being only one, or two systems left. In that case, pull your force together there and log in earlier, or make a permament 6000Papi to 500 Goons in the system.
CCp’s statement is clear. Don’t jump from one crippled node to another, so coordinate your login count and do better. I’m sure there are several strategies.
It’s just unfair if somewhere else your overnumber is advantageous to you and if once it’s no use you ask for balance at CCP.
It’s not every day that you want to exterminate an entire system population, so it won’t be cheap.
PS: It’s a bit like being angry for not widening the gorge… like in 300
Wrong is to take three systems with 150k to 50k and then cry for balance.
PS: Make it sporty 10vs 10 at the sun
PPS: The EvE golden rule Nr.xyz. There are no fair fights. As long as you have one, you have done something wrong.
Lives with it
Players will continue to form bigger and bigger numbers if this is giving them advantage.
Now even more so since loading a system to its limits seem a valid strategy to deny server and system access to your enemy.
CCP need to introduce random disconnect mechanics before the server starts behaving irrational. At least this will affect all parties equally
That could work tbh, if the system goes over 5k something random dies every 5min, if you fill the system to 4000 first then that means its a 4 in 5 chance its you that looses something so works out well.
This is all very interesting from not just the player experience but from the context of server/cluster architectures. ALL systems fail under certain loads, predicting those circumstances is something all sysadmins are paranoid over and why they have grey beards and no hair or fingernails (a generalisation obviously ).
My question is what happened to the Aether Wars technology tests from 18 months (?) ago? They were really interesting in terms of numbers of concurrent players but everything went quiet.
Still, considering Elite Dangerous has an instance limit of 32 players, Star Citizen I think is 64 at present, then CCP should be applauded that after 17 years their basic architecture (with upgrades) can even attempt 12k players in a situation like this.
Instead of writing an entire article about what I think about this clusterf*ck, I just add one new perspective:
CCP does not want to remedy this situation for not changing the outcome of this battle and the war.
But instead of reimbursing losses (some are caused by the server not calculating fittings correctly), CCP could offer Omega time to compensate.
I miss a constructive approach to these issues from CCP.
The dev blog ist just another marketing crap. A slap in the faces of the entire player base (not just the ones who lost something but everyone else who will lose something later due to server capacity problems)
CCP is right. Tough patooties if you lost a ship. You knew what you were getting into. Any “veteran” could have told you that. Hell, a simple search on the interwebs could have told you all you needed to know with a bit of research about EvE game history.
The only thing EPIC about this battle will be all the whining and keyboard pounding as the biggest RAGE QUIT, ever, begins.
After reading the dev blog and being present in both the 1st and 2nd battle of M2-XFE im currently left wondering why did the 1st battle go much better for both sides and the 2nd was very problematic, can you give an analysis on the technical side?
CCP writes there are no limits on the ammount of players in the system but are there other limits why players expierenced being throttled into a system. I believe this is relevant to the players because clearly technical side of things affects gameplay.
Why do players expierence more lag when launching fighters for example? This was a considerable difference with the 1st M2-XFE battle, where no fighters were launched until the end.
given that CCP acknowledges unexpected in game issues and unpredictable results i find it hard to understand why the players are supposed to just suck it up and accept their losses. regardless of who gets blamed. the players deserve better.
It was a scam, it is a scam, and will be a scam. Just like star citizen and it’s fairy tale of thousands of players at the same time fighting in FPS mode.
The number of participants was huge because there was ■■■■ all going on and server didn’t have to handle a lot of simulation. There was no TiDi in M2 while we were just sitting there. TiDi hit when the fighting started.
Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded. -Y. Berra
I am fairly sure that there will be fleet fights, still. Just that folks will take the weather into account. (Well I can hope that they will.) Stacking the system to make it edgy IS a tactic, not a new one, either.
If you want to protest? Well we once had Burn Jita . . . 4k people and you can Block Jita
So i understand the Devblog, CCP will not engage in both ways. So they will not reimburse the killed Titans. But on the Other Side they will not delete the Insurance that is paid to the Pilots, that lost a Ghost Titan/Super/Cap, but get never with their Pilot in M2 and therefore they get a clone Titan/Super/Cap and have so both Insurancepayout and a fresh new Ship.
And CCP will not Delete the Ghost Titans/Supers/Caps, that are “cloned” to T5 even if they get killed in M2.
So i don’t get the complaining from papi side. They get more back than they deserve. But i know. Not all of their heroic Pilots get their Ships back. So there is an injustice.
But the only injustice here is, that they get there Ships back through a Bug. And CCP let them have the ships. Ignoring, that they only appear through this bug. Great CCP, like all this Years, you show exactly what your goals are. papi can’t kill Imperium, so you try it for years now. But like papi you fail in that.
Just my opinion on this hole thing.
And like others say: It is only the problem of papi that they jumped in a system of 5000 angry goons, waiting fotr hours. Next time, come in way earlier or pass and attack other systems, so that we must come to you. But do what you want to do, but stop crying. You know exactly how crappy the servers are in max. TiDi.
I’m not suggesting Aether wars was a playable game, it was a technology test where thousands of players connected to instanced servers but appeared as a single shard, that was interesting, it has potential. What I’m saying is that it just went off the radar, I’m sure the partner devs are still working on it, I’m just surprised CCP haven’t continued. N.B. @CCP_Aurora , perhaps you could comment pls.
