[Dev Blog] The second timer in M2-XFE

They are absolutely entitled to their opinions, and I have passed those opinions on to the company, as is my job.

That does not mean that I have to agree with those opinions, or not share my own. If you don’t like the job I’m doing as a CSM member, feel free to run against me.

I appreciate the erudite attempt at “NO U” here, but repeating something that isn’t true over and over again doesn’t make it true. The servers are not broken. The leadership of both sides of the fight have said that the servers didn’t crash during the M2- fight. Vily said as much last night on Trash Talk Tuesday when we discussed it.

That the servers can’t handle twice the load of the largest fight ever doesn’t mean they’re broken, for all the reasons I’ve already stated and you’ve ignored, because you don’t want to acknowledge that you’re wrong.

No you.

:yum:

Well, this is your opinion. When i see your profile it appears that you are a part of this war and so your are doing your propaganda. Forum warrior ?

I’m not part of this conflict, again i’m an external viewer I have friend on both sides, all I saw is one side had the servers with him other side didn’t. People allowed to jump others don’t, ships killed but respawned, etc

All I want is answers and actions.

Citation needed, CCP themselves advertised it as a tech demo/stress test for all 3 events.

There is actually no other way to counter 6000 people defending in local then to bring in that number to counter them. I’m not sure what you are talking about here.

hahahaha.

I hate having to agree with Brisc. Can you clowns stop making dumb posts so he can’t put you in your place and then I have to like his posts?

That’d be great.

Having said that: Goons et al very obviously and very intentionally forced this to happen. It was a smart move, nothing more.

He’s just awe struck because they fly him out for a vacation yearly to come and drink at the pubs with them.

They should hire you. You could be CCP Milquetoast

Given BIAB moved all the character/ship creation stuff out of the Sim already, It was still tracking creation of a characters ship when they spawned in (or respawned), tracking the ship in space, talking to the other characters logged in and tracking damage. On top of that it was also tracking all the missiles fired at each other.
You know, all the things that a big fight has to track.

Sure, it wasn’t EVE. But pretending that it was doing nothing is just silly.

  • They could probably but how does it matter? There is only so much current hardware can handle. We all know that. Would it be nice if CCP had some kind of magic servers with infinite power? Yes it would, but that’s along the lines of wishing for ability to fly and leap tall buildings. Nice but not exactly realistic.
  • 6700 or there about obviously. The nodes are this point in time a bit aged but since IBM has not released any blades with Zen3 and intel cpus are pure trash there is not much CCP can do there.

Eve is always CPU bound as that is the hardest problem to solve, you can add more bandwidth as that scales well. Problem is that simulation does not scale with more cores/threads. It is essentially a=b+c d=a+e type of thing where subsequent result depends on previous result (order of commands, does damage or rep land first and so on). That kind of dependency can’t be multi-threaded which is why sol sim is single threaded.
Updating to AMD Zen3 CPUs would give a boost of 20-30% in IPC (instructions per clock) which would in best case result in being able to “handle” a bit under 9k players in the same system. That using the absolutely best CPU architecture on the planet, but still far short of 12 or so thousand players that Vily tried to get on the node.

CCP has told us quite a bit about their tech over the years (less now and I miss old tech porn devblogs but still) and it is not really that difficult to comprehend the problem. They have done an amazing job, over the years, when it comes to handling bigger and bigger fights. To the point where nobody else on the planet is even comparable.

It did something. Just as you walking along the street is something. Sadly, it’s not exactly comparable to flying despite being something.
Also, the test hardly went well as there were tons of issues with desync and nonresponsive clients. That on a super dumbed down sim with numbers not that much greater than what we see in actual eve.

NONONONONO!
That is not how the maths works.
Learn the handshake game.

They were literally flying ships in the test. “Flying is not comparable to flying” That’s what you just said.

How exactly did we do this? By actually defending our space from the hypocrisy coalition? We should have seen the number of elite pvpers arrayed against us and just self destructed to avoid hurting their egos?

We were there 4 hours before the timer because we know just how much work it is to handle TiDi, paspi formed less than an hour before because they are lazy bums who expect easy kills or, if that is not available, for CCP to do their work for them.

Yes, it doesn’t scale like that but it was best case estimate. Depending on number of interactions you might get up to that scaling.

Could you at least pretend to be able to read?

Hi, I’m Brisc. I’m on the CSM, I host two talk shows, and I’m in INIT and Goons. I like to play EVE.

Now that we’re not strangers anymore, CCP just provided answers, so I’m not sure what else you’re looking for.

There are plenty of ways to counter it. #1 being, of course, get there first. There’s a dozen things that I would have done if I were in their position that could have made an impact, and they are supposed to have smarter EVE minds than me running their show.

It’s the other way around. They’re awestruck that I take the time out of my schedule to come and drink at the pubs with them.

They can’t afford me, but if I was a CCPer, my CCP name would be CCP Nixon.

What answers ? Read the posts above me i’m not the only one that have these feelings

Did you liked that fight last night ? Watching guys getting killed one by one without any possiblity to counter attack ? Eve is hard game maybe one of the hardest I ever played so far, building stuff is hard, making money is hard it gives thrills when you get in combat. Where was the thrill there ?

All we saw on twitch was a server dying, a game broken. Friends in your side that the server had technical issues that caused a population cap and told me that it was the saddest fight of their eve career.

So far you list only one way to counter it, what are the eleven others ? If the way to win is to flood people in one system to impeach other to come then the game is broken.

Didn’t mean to reply to Brisc.

Regardless if some people consider the game broken or not …

… and? So what?

What are you going to do about it?
Cry Rant on a forum in hopes it’ll change anything?

Changed the “cry” to “rant”, because that seems more applicable.

And, like I said to those people, CCP provided answers to all of the questions. I don’t know what more you want them to say.

Yes, I liked the fight. I was there. My side won. Yes, it sucks for the folks who couldn’t counter attack, and I am sorry for them that their leadership made a bad choice and the result was they lost their ships. It was pretty thrilling watching the number of dead titans rise, not gonna lie.

There is no population cap. The servers didn’t die. And I’m sure for those who died, it was a rough fight.

I’m not about to explain what I would have done - if the other side can’t figure it out, then they deserve to keep losing.

Cry ? Where do I cry ? If you think i’m part of this war on any side, no. I just don’t care of who is winning / losing this war.

I only relay the questions of my friends, who saw and again i use their words “something rigged” that’s all.

I’m just here to speak and debate on what went wrong.

cheers mate

Your side will have to do some work figuring it out. Take a break from your busy schedule of circle-jerking on reddit or crying to CCP and think a bit about it. After all, you are fighting stupid goons so it should be trivial to outsmart us.
