Are you talking about the Pochven implementation? It was certainly odd, because I had my pilots and the ships they were in moved to their newbie starting station. Seems like it would be a trivial matter to do the same for all the assets they had there but who knows.
I have a lot of stuff in one of those systems, including expensive clones, that will take too much effort to retrieve so I definitely understand your frustration.
