like i said if they are not going to DL discord to be social they are not social in the first place. you could keep a running stream of chat in corp window and i bet this person would never chat back
Its like people who play CSGO with no mic. Useless.
So what you’re saying is… you should not be allowed to experience the full social aspect of eve unless you go ahead and download Discord? Right, well in that case. CCP should have that as a prerequisite to play the game then.
Not everyone who wants to play eve uses discord, especially if it’s their first MMO experience, they might not even know what discord is.
With respect, I don’t think it’s a big issue for me. If I have to download Discord to play with others in EVE then I will do it and resign myself to using an extra program on top of EVE, my pc is powerful enough.
Also, it isn’t my thread, I just happened to agree with the idea of an in-game voice chat.
I didn’t mean to make anyone think that I am anti-social or not serious about belonging to the game’s community.
i dont know how many times it needs to be said. Out of game chat is nothing new in the MMORPG genre at large or Eve. Get this through yalls head please.
Again, you’re missing the point. We’re not saying anything is wrong with out of game chat. We’re saying CCP needs to adapt and better support in game chat. Whether that is through creating new APIS for external apps to read and post stuff in corp chat or what ever. It needs looking into because it is affecting new players a lot.
The devs just won’t have the time and resources that third party developers have that made these other tools, so whatever voice chat tool they make will be limited and inferior to those other tools.
If CCP devs did get as much time and money to create something on par with discord, mumble or teamspeak, that money could better be spent on other parts of the game as we already have discord, mumble and teamspeak to talk to eachother.
That’s nonsense. Of ALL the third party applications discord is not only the most generic amongst all types of games, it’s also the easiest to install and use.
The reason why “new players” tell you they “don’t want to install discord” is because they are not new players, they are alts pretending to be new and if they’d join on a discord with their current discord account it would probably give them away.

“speculation”
Amazing how butt hurt people get for suggesting better integration with in game chats and out of game chats.
Far more logical and realistic than “new players don’t want to install discord”. It’s quite possibly the second install any gamer will do, right after Steam.
one problem w/ in-game comms , if eve crashes , your comms crash .
you also have to be logged in , and they don’t work over downtime . 3rd party chat has more options and are more controllable than everyone piled into one chat speaking over each other or causing text to scroll and be unusable .
players have decided , and someone’s bright idea isn’t going to change that .
There used to be EVE Voice. It fell out of use when 3rd party voice apps became in wide use.
3rd party will always have the upside that you can still talk if you disconnect or experience lag which can be crucial information in a fight, so it is not enough for EVE’s voice to be as good as a 3rd party, it would have to be far, far superior, to be used instead.
Ooy! I didn’t think about lags and connection issues. That’s a great point. Plus, I could use Discord on my phone and participate even if I’m not home.
I’m seeing in-game Voice Chat differently now
Thank you Elisabeth.
There’s always that moment in game when you’ve created a female character, and then have to go on voice comms for the first time. For me its never really been a problem ( yes, I am really a guy…96% of the people in Eve are )…but I suspect some either want to keep the immersion or have some foibles over gender or worry what others will think. And I honestly think this explains some aversion to voice comms.
I don’t know any yet. When I befriend one I’ll share what I learned and hopefully he’ll share what he’s learned so far and we can compare notes. Might even fleet together and die together. I think that would be so sexy.
