Or fly Alpha…or SP-Farm…
Its possible, there is no way I can say its not.
I simply prefer my money being in my own bank, I weigh up what I do and how much free time I have to play a game ( not as much as I’d like ) and decide if £20 is something I’m willing to part with for so little time, it was barely worth it at the old price for me anyway.
So there is a lot of different elements.
The other factor is how much is in the old players hands, if CCP lose enough of the big market players it would be catastrophic for the in game markets. It would take years for some of those new players to catch up.
So many issues this could cause. I’m not doing any new manufacturing at the moment for example, how many others are now in that same position?
It could get messy
This is so risky. These kinds of games require something that is so important, people. Banking on the fact that you will still profit from the loss of subscriptions is a flawed take when you realize that mmorpgs like this need people in order to function at a base line.
When you get below a certain point, it could start to snowball and the thing that would turn people off wouldn’t just be the price, but the lack of population that a game was designed for. Modern games try to take this into account, but in a way I personally don’t consider them to be mmos.
Dark Age of Camelot is a good example of this. A game that released around the same time as eve. That game did not age as well as eve for sure, but it is still known as one of the best pvp games ever made. It’s still running too, the live servers are still on. But, the population is so low that it turns off people from playing it for that sole reason alone and nothing else. No more server merges, active player count of approximately 100.
When your sandbox gets to big for your playerbase, you will need to take some very drastic measures or what little is left will leave too and you’ll be left with with a PCU in the hundreds.
No, they don’t. EVE Online is a property, unless you play for free (which you can now), it cost’s money. No one “deserves” anything, you give them money and they give you access. It’s a simple business transaction.
I don’t know why people try to make it more than that. There are all kinds of space games now, if people can’t stomach 20 bucks for EVE, it’s not like CCP is smashing the customers PC and cutting their internet connection, just play something else (or go outside lol)
I agree. The some of the big RL money could walk away from the game and that would be pretty tough but if EVE survives, the markets will adapt as they always do.
If EVE survives…that’s the key obviously.
Cheers and thanks for the great replies.
I mean, who the heck runs CCP’s PR department? Blind Freddy could see that they should have announced and described the supposed “exciting new content” BEFORE slugging the players. A 34% increase demands a massive improvement in the game before it would actually translate into more overall revenue for CCP. At this point all they’ve acheived is the likelihood of an utterly miserable FF, against the backdrop of a catastrophic decline in the player base.
It perfectly complete my complaint, all is linked, and its a dangerous move.
Trying to make Eve a sort of premium game with no people in it? What is (are) the new content?
Hard to be optimistic
well I can safely say I will never sub to EVE again. During a time when MMOs are adding more value for free to play, one time purchase, and cheaper subs there is zero sense in supporting this, I recommend everyone to unsub for a few months in protest, if they realize they wont make money with this new sub fee they will revert it back.
Honestly its not, EvE has roughly 97 hours of content in it…
Without the playerbase, it is a dull and mediocre game that is not worth the total price of no more than lets say X4 foundations. which is maybe $40
I still havn’t seen @ISD_FlowingSpice or bureaucat get in here and explain their garbage tone def comments. No wonder you can’t even tag CCP Bureaucat. they probably banned this socially awkward man child from speaking on here.
Are you kidding ccp? you expect australians too pay over 30 bucks for this mess of a game???
every month though.
Dark Age of Camelot has had private servers that keep the population interested. The increased population is a big draw, as you want to be where the people are.
I…AM…ROoooo…BOooot…
yeah alpha ships kinda suck, there is zero reason for anyone to support a $20 a month sub for EVE.
It sounds like a lot of people are picking that 3rd option. Your comment is asinine to really think most people are more upset over $5 than the principle of paying more for… well nothing for years. Just because we haven’t directly screwed you lately, and everything else cost more. Sounds like some of the logic they use IN the game. You know that illogical kind.
This poll is still going for yall who want to vote.
other games which put way more effort into their game, doing so much to make their player have fun for exchange for the money and also never raised their price in 20 years or even more
(FFXI is still at 11$/month for already 20 years and for that i would have gladly payed 15)
Normal you want more money increase your value, show that you can do better work BEFORE chargeing for something what maybe never happens…
Give something in return not just promises again.
I mean those who say “its just 70 cent more a day”… ok, pay me a coffee each day for nothing in return.
Hell i take even 2 :D.
This is my first post.
I am (…was) a returning (somewhat casual) player to Eve.
In AUD the price was already too high an ask given the conversion from USD.
I’m out. I do not understand how this move is meant to increase the total player base and total numbers. It already appears that the game is supported almost entirely by dedicated players who sub multiple accounts instead of sheer volume of people.
shrugs - It’s not like I don’t have a backlog of hundreds of games to play anyway. Perfect timing CCP, thanks for giving me the push to get back into FFXIV as my MMO.
like i said earlier the industry is maintain $15 subs or less and updating with content and major releases more frequently and even trending towards cheaper subs and better free to play value. CCP is completely out of touch. If enough people unsub CCP will realize its better to make more money on the $15 sub then 0 money on the $20 sub.
