We were talking specifically about CODE., and CODE. always pods (or tries to). So of course pods are going to comprise somewhat close to half of all kills.
Well CODE. are the ice miners of pvp. When it comes to pvp, I really wouldn’t look to them for any kind of standard other than the lowest possible point in any game. They do think very highly of themselves though. That counts when you live in a social bubble.
What makes you think they ever wanted one in the first place?
No it won’t.
CCP is currently trying to “nerf” the economy because we already have too much of everything, and nothing have real value anymore.
You won’t “help” with something that will go in the opposite direction than what the game needs.
By letting them pilot the ship they apparently pay the Omega for, while staying Alpha?
That’s… just not how it works.
Why?
If you want to provide more fun to the alpha players, there is much higher priority than mining barge in terms of what ship they could unlock to them.
What seems absurb to me is that the only thing you wan’t to give them is a… mining ship. There is absolutely no gameplay interest in that. Mining in a barge is exactly the same than mining in a venture, gameplay wise.
That’s not gonna help a single person to enjoy the game more.
Most people who talk about CODE. don’t actually understand what CODE. is. People don’t like the concept of someone shooting them and blowing up their stuff against their will, and as such will express prejudice against a group that does this. It doesn’t matter what the reason is; most people won’t do any deep thinking to establish whether or not the activity actually has merit. Boom boom lose ship is bad, therefore these people must be cheaters/griefers, and also probably live in their mothers’ basements and have no jobs or girlfriends. This is an extension of human tribal/pack mentality thinking, and is to be expected. But once you start actually delving into the abstract concepts of morality and socioeconomics as part of game design considerations, you can no longer get away with such a lack of effort.
A good example of this is when players accuse CODE. (or gankers in general) of being “cowards” for not seeking out “real PvP.” They do this under the assumption that CODE. is looking for PvP, but are too unintelligent and unskilled to win actual fights, so they gank instead. It makes for a nice, sensationalist forum post, but completely ignores the reality of the organization’s actual, intended purpose.
that’s just trying to give cover to what is terrible game play performed by truly terrible people. I’m afraid they have no good qualities. These are just trash players and I’m not even talking about intellect or skill. They’re just bottom feeders plain and simple.
How so?
That’s not really a “how so” issue. It’s a statement.
Also, I didn’t meant to speak disparagingly of ice miners by lumping them in with CODE. . Ice mining is fine and I’ve even done some of it from time to time. It’s very chill (no pun intended). Unlike CODE., ice miners actually provide useful materials to the game and aid in much of the end game infrastructure (again, unlike CODE.).
A body can achieve great physical prowess. It is also susceptible to disease. If CODE. contributes anything, they fulfill the role of EVE’s puss filled infection. Everyone has to make their own goals I guess. CODE just aimed right down into the dirt.
CODE. are like Goons, if they didn’t exist who would you have to hate?
Well, if you’re merely expressing your opinion about them, I’m fine with that.
And Jonah brings up a good point. Would you prefer an EVE Online without any villains? To each his own, I guess. I’m just happy that CCP is ultimately making the decisons.
I don’t think so. Even though Goons have long held a policy of destroying EVE for other people (that’s from them, not me) they have a long history of providing content. Unfortunately, their current form is they became Band of Brothers 2.0. Believe it or not they used to represent the anti-alliance. There was Vee Cee Bees (I think that was it), Jihad Bees and others.
CODE. provides nothing.
You’re nothing but an ankle-biting liar. The average CODE. kill is worth more than the average kill made by one of EVE’s premier PvP alliances that destroys supercap fleets for a living.
I guess that means PL shoots even more noobs in Ventures than CODE. does, right, liar?
I think the quote is more accurate. Goons use to run around saying “we are here to destroy your game, ccp” and then ccp finnially said, “ok enough, if you say it again you get a disband” and they changed it to “we are here to destroy your experience” or some similar crap for players.
Goons are responsible for the alts that post on forums that we argue with here, the same alts that post slanderous nonsense against me, and the same people in these high sec corps/alliances doing ganking.
the fact that ccp does not see this and do something about it is beyond me, but its clear their intent is still to harm the game, and they are doing a great job at it and ccp is sitting in chairs spinning around like 5 year olds wondering why people are leaving. Ironically, while both me (and other devs) and a lot of the players being abused petition over and over for the change.
At this point ccp is either our right stupid, or is intentionally killing their game.
There’s plenty of villians. CODE. doesn’t really qualify as that.
CODE is the player during the first iteration of Diablo 2 that offered an multiplayer experience. They were called PKers (player killers) that would wait at the first entrance of the first dungeon immediately killing the new player. They’re the max level player in WoW that would camp the entrance of the first area after the tutorial zone, instantly killing new players to the point people were quitting since they couldn’t even play. like those kinds of players, CODE offers nothing to the game. The action happens and it’s over with no positive or even neutral outcome. it just takes from the environment without return and as such works like cancer does in a body.
The difference here is those other games took steps to handle those issues. Their various degrees of success are why you have MMOs now. CCP on the other hand has a long and storied history of ignoring their problems or missing the mark so badly that they fester for years. Thus CODE. exists in EVE.
Neither of those two games (which I’ve played for thousands of hours) was primarily a PvP experience, and both offered ways to completely opt out of PvP, so your comparison doesn’t make any sense.
The people who gave us the “gong” and that damn persistent red dot?
Eve’s original devs were PKers in UO…
That there is nowhere that one is immune to someone shooting you, also makes it pvp at heart. Doesn’t mean that every time I undock I expect someone to shoot at me, but there’s always that possibility.
Nonsense. CODE. provides destruction, which creates opportunities for industry players. Remember that without PvP destruction industry becomes worthless as nobody will ever be buying any meaningful amount of finished goods.
Lolwut? D2 never had open multiplayer, and by the time you were joining multiplayer games (other than rush/cow farming) you’d already leveled up significantly. And if someone declared PvP, giving a very obvious warning indicator, you could just leave the game and make a solo game with nobody else allowed in to do your leveling.
More about the players and not the games themselves.
Players will play games according to the mechanics and rules presented to them, so what’s your point?
Are you saying that no one should be making games in which it’s possible to attack other players without their consent?
