Hypothetically speaking a the least necessary things for a minigame are available those are
yield and residue as outcomes of the game, and mining equipment(mining lasers, strip miners) and mining focused ships.(venture, expedition frigats, barges and exhumers) as the gaming piece.
However several things are lacking.
If one went with the polaristaion idea then there are three polarisations: vertical, horizontal and diagonal(vertical+horizontal)
Good now one could apply the principle of “fitting key to a lock in a stash”, the stash being the asteroid is receptive for either vertical or horizontal stimulation and if the polarisation of the laser is the same as the stimulation then “the miner has cracked the gold pot”.
Thsi now means there are three possible laser setting for two stimulations, this leads to following game outcomes:
polarisation and stimulation are the same → every cycle full mining yield, random dice roll for residue event
polarisation and stimulation are different → random dice roll for mining yield event, every cycle full residue
Wait someone might call, there is diagonal polarisation and it is vertical and horizzontal polarisation mixed so it does overla with the stimulation all the time.
And yeah that person is right:
polarisation partially overlaps with stimulation → every cycle mining yield halfed, random dice roll for residue event
Okay now these above are some basic game choices (betting positions) and outcomes (bettign prizes).
All that lacks are hud buttons to trigger make a bettign choice, that is all and only mining oriented ships need them and they could be:
Two triangles at the left and right base of the mining laser or strip miner, one with a plus and one wiht a minus sign. Now what do they mean?
Plus stands for vertical and horizontal polarisation (or diagonal) at the same time.
Minus stand for horiontal polarisation.
Neither of both or standart is the vertical polarisation.
Okay now we have a way to enter a bet into the system, then when activating the mining laser on a rock the system compares stimulus of rock with bet and tada after a minute outcome appears, and the player now is able to adjust his bet.
Nice, isn’t it yet currently nothing more than an initial calibration and then the same mind borign mining stuff: “Looking at rock and waiting”
To spice things up, the rock randomly chooses oen of the two stimulus after being mined 180 seconds.
And well above is a possible mini game.
Now does anybody want it, perhaps one person not me.

this will kill eve ! why ? because you say to all of this miner with more then 1 account go ■■■■ yourself ! and then only the solo afk miner bring all the minerals but this is not enough and the economy crashed !
as the economy crashed nobody buys construct anything anymore because they wont buy or mine the minerals and then CCP can close the server 
your idea is stupid ! if you want a minigame then play tetris as you mine ! no miner will accept a halfed yield because of a stupid minigame !
and what is with all the mining drones ? all the boostet mining drones of an orca or an rorqual ? did you get 5 minigames because you launched 5 drones ?
Perhaps all you say is obvious to me, not for you drowning the forum with above argumentation but simply due to already having it argued all out before posting this miningame.
Maybe I jut like doing mental gymnastics through constructing small games.

Nah.
It’s not going to suddenly make mining interesting for people who already don’t like it.
The minigame in mining is sharpening your efficiency while keeping a proper look out.

Some low sec systems have NPC pirate ganks of varying intensity. Others are camped by pvpers 24/7. And clearing gas sites in WH space provides good content.
