Mining is boring, lets make it an active task

for harvesting ore you lock it and turn on miners and sit and wait and it does it all by its self for the next while, very boring because you have time to chat and watch Netflix, it should work like this when you activate a miner a window like the hack pops up and it has a image of the roid and you need to spam click on targets that pop up every 5 seconds in different random spots on the roid in the window, the faster you spam click the target the faster it mines, if you miss a click or don’t start clicking the new target it breaks lock and you need to start over, the longer you keep up the combo of clicking the targets the faster you mine the roid, I’m sure everyone would love that be cause automation is bad right…

Thanks for the sarcasm.

While I don’t mind to see mining become more active if only to make it less easily multiboxed, I do not think this is the right approach.

Miners aren’t interested in hacking gameplay, such gameplay can already be found in other parts of the game.

The beauty of mining is to orbit an asteroid peacefully while looking at your mining lasers chip away at the rock.

To make such an activity more active wouldn’t be fun if you had to cover your screen with some UI window and be busy with something else than mining.

Instead I propose a different solution to make mining more active:

Make it more like fishing.

Fishing is a very relaxing activity similar to mining. Nothing much is happening, but you have to pay attention because a fish may nibble.

What if, while mining an asteroid, there is a chance of a valuable piece of rock floating away. Very dense and more valuable than the part of the asteroid you’re mining by default, possibly a part of the rock that has gone loose and almost got wasted as residue.

You mine the asteroid, admiring the views and suddenly you see a piece of rock float away. You redirect your laser and get a big bonus for paying attention. After that you can continue your regular mining.

That would be how I would make mining more interactive. Not a hacking interface blocking the beautiful view of the asteroids, ships and lasers.

I thought mining was the EVE “Netflix” mode?

i like this idea, if you got too passive some other miner might get that nice chunk before you so it becomes a competition at that point and if you don’t get it within 30 seconds it dissolves, so you can play passive if you want but also get a bonus for playing active.

I would really like that, too, Gerard. Fact is, few if any of the belt-bashers I encounter would vote for it. Having to pay attention while they mine is the very last thing they require of the game.

If I, as a Spotter, were to go Suspect on nabbing the wayward rock, that might be a conflict-driver. Then again, the miners wouldn’t notice because of Disney+ (I’m getting tired of the ‘Netflix’ thing). If there were no Suspect flag - then I’m clean away!

You have my enthusiastic endorsement.

why should there be a vote?, miners have had it too easy for too long, they should be forced to play the game like the rest of us.

that sounds nice but i´m not sure if this could result in a more active gameplay ! maybe this will result in just more multiboxing with atleast one extra char only to collect these little chunks

but i think it could be a nice base to build on as mechanic

but they play the game like everyone else …

Why indeed, Xer? The miners wouldn’t turn up for it anyway.

Maybe if we get rid of the CSM (worthy folk, all of them!) and instead:

CCP publishes outline proposals for game improvements.
Players vote for or against each proposal (1 vote per player).
CCP goes away and does the maths.

CCP goes ahead anyway, but better prepared for the possible outcry/rage-quit scenarios.

csm was created to make sure something like “Band of Developers” never happened again, I wonder if they remember?

i think the voting is a bad idea due to multiple accounts and null sec blocs having a majority sway over votes like they already do with the csm.

I’ve never believed that the CSM is an effective expression of the wishes of the player base, largely for the reasons you mention. Like some of EVE’s mechanics, it’s too readily leveraged to suit the vested interests of a rather small and homogeneous group of individuals. Nullsec, basically.

Of course, Nullsec must thrive, for the health of the rest of the cluster, but I don’t think the CSM is the best vehicle for that. Unlike our Global Western democracies, the members of the CSM are quite unable to report back on the progress of their interactions in a timely manner.

I also understand the position of a commercial entity wishing to control and protect its product, of course. NDAs have been around in some form or other for a very long time.

Thus, deadlock. Democracy was probably a good thing once. It’s useless in a crisis, however, and positively evil when it can be manipulated by bad actors.

By all means, make your play for more active mining; if you don’t mind waiting half a year for a response, alert the CSM. If by some chance you wish CCP to be directly appraised of your concerns, why then, it seems that Discord and Reddit are a more reliable vehicle than this sub-forum!

Having said that, mine in multiple max boosted Hulks with T2 Type B crystals. I guarantee you it is very interactive…

your comment adds noting to the discussion.

mining with multiple accounts is not in most players interest

Then those players can continue to be poor. Don’t know what else to tell them…

i do, don’t mine, and do something profitable and fun like hacking relic sites in whs

Very likely, QG. That’s why I leave the ‘Player Features & Ideas’ sub-forum for those with the inexperience to start threads therein.

There’s nothing wrong with having ideas and such, and wanting to share them, but so many of these people don’t do even the most basic amount of work on their stuff before triumphantly taking it to the keyboard.

It’s the reason why they attract opposition, and their not being able to handle that is the reason so many of the threads end in ignominious failure.

off topic, please stick to op topic

Quite right, Xer; I do that from time to time. However, it was my belief that the principal arguments for and against the proposals had been sufficiently aired and were in danger of becoming repetitious. I decided to take a break.

Thank you for your gentle prod!

so what do you think would be a good way to make mining an active activity? and how to disincentivize mining with multiple alts / incentivize mining with one alt at a time?
