Careful with those modules, they’re not as strong as the numbers let on. Your overall tank averaged out over time is actually weaker.
Anyways, you’ll do great in EVE. I can already tell.
Just keep asking us questions every time you’re confused about something, or need advice before trying to do something new.
Edit: Maybe it’s a good idea for you to ease into PvP micromanagement by flying passive setups. Consider some shield-extended frigates and cruisers for starting out. Active armor tanking is really strong if done right, but it’s probably the most difficult tank type to pull off.
Thanks for the advice. I would prefer a simpler build if you have a good one in mind. I am a big fan of exploring null sec and wh space. I just recently got it in my head to start jumping other explorers while I am at it, hence how I ran into the Astero. I have considered getting a stratios but know I cannot afford to lose it yet and should probably cut my teeth on something cheaper.
I never spend time in other areas unless I am heading back to sell and right now I am playing solo. Any build fit the bill for an explorer hunter that can still hack relic sites in null sec and j space?
Hnnnng, okay, I think the question should be what you should train for, as opposed to what you should use. You should pick a single race for now, and get laser-focused on that.
I’m leaning toward either Gallente or Minmatar. Amarr can be really difficult to fly properly, and Caldari are a little bit limited in the solo department.
You really can’t go wrong with an Incursus or a Rifter, though.
If you insist on seeking out PvP specifically in null-sec and wormholes, the Astero might be your only viable choice, however, since a cloak is essential, and there are very few small ships that can use one while still doing decent damage.
Yeah, right now the only way I know how to make isk is exploring… which I make about 50-100m isk an hour doing. Since I am doing that anyway, I thought, let’s have some fun and kill some folks while we do this. Everyone seems intimidated by j space but I find it rather comforting… than again I have not flown without a cloak lol. I heard there was incursions which make more isk… but I have no idea how those work and have to find some folks to walk me through it someday. There is a warp to me guide I was reading that seemed pretty simple and I might spend a day off trying it out.
So Astero it is than. Any changes I should make on the build to make it a bit more noobie friendly or will I have to get used to active useage? (I dont mind active stuff… I just have to get used to the adrenaline… 2 hours of work going down the drain if I die is exhilarating lol.
I hope you realize that that’s like 50x what the average noob is making. Every single new player I meet, I always recommend that they go straight into exploration for income. About two-thirds tell me to go suck a fat one, and that they’re going to mine instead.
You’re already beating like 90% of the player base in terms of income generation. Keep it up. Try to find ways to make your exploration process as efficient as possible.
Don’t worry about that for now, because those require skilled-up large hulls, or T2 logistics.
I guess you might as well just go all in and jump into the fire right away. You’ll learn faster like that anyway.
One thing I would do is cut some of the fittings down to control costs. Using a T1 probe launcher and T1 rigs will cut your ship’s cost by half. Otherwise, the setup is fine.
Don’t have any extraneous modules, like the Relic Analyzer, fit to your ship before going into a fight. Stick a webber on there instead. Also, maybe using two normal T2 repairers might be a wiser choice for now. Damage is critical, so get any relevant drone skills up ASAP.
It is funny you say that about drone training. After I went over all the other stuff you guys were recommending about training I went and looked at my drone training. Let’s just say I will have 20% more drone damage when I wake up tomorrow lol.
I think I will give it another go. I am not necessarily looking for a fight. I am just exploring to make money and give me something to do while my skills train. But I wanted something to add a little excitement every now and then. I dont mind the isk… even with losing all my implants I still broke even by the end of the day… and that is with losing the 100 million of relic stuff in my cargo when I died.
Last question, is there a good way to find a good corp? I used to be in signal cartel and LOVED THEM outside of the no pvp thing. Should I just stay solo and let the corp thing happen organically or should I do something to start searching?
P.S. Yes I know that is a lot for a noob, I have Signal Cartel to thank for that. Cannot recommend them enough for new guys wanting to make some isk and tryout exploring. I became very comfortable avoiding trouble in dangerous areas. Their ship replacement program takes all the stress away and allows you to just go see what you can do.
You should search - chances are a good corporation won’t just fall into your lap.
What about the guy who killed you? Maybe he’d like a wingman willing to learn. If not, start browsing the recruitment forum section. Ignore any corporation that advertises themselves as PvE-only, or any corporation with a kill record worse than 1:1, and with less than like a hundred kills per month. But also avoid generic null-sec meatgrinder outfits.
And still, take my advice with regard to the fit, even if you can afford it. No reason to pay an extra 30 million for 5% more scan efficiency on something you’re going to lose. Maybe keep one T2 rig (the repair amount pump).
\ / \ / \ / OH. Also, pick up those two neural booster skills, train them to level 4, and start carrying Exile boosters with you at all times.

Your attitude and willingness to learn from your mistakes are why; if you had whined and moaned about how unfair it was that you died to a cheap ship the responses would have been very different.
