I Don’t know why I feel like some-one here should talk about
other games that are not Eve, but could actually grasp a small audience… take A1: You run a drug cartel. It’s like GTA, but for dummies.
Huge success. In the “Halo” world, the initial trilogy, highly cinematic, had a profound impact, taking away players from other FPS games, but not really. Consoles and PC have been two separate worlds for years.
PC had RPGs like Oblivion, Fallout 76 (Syndacate 2.0)…
But transforming Eve in “the Sims in space”… doesn’t sound like a good idea to me…
I prefer 4X genre, which can be tedious. Think of Dune, part RTS, part click adventure. When everything became immediate… it lost its charme… when the enemy Ai has access to lots of power in RT, battles becomes dynamic, but human players lose the hedge…
And when that hedge us gone, thus has gone all the interest in it…
Make it too easy… too equilibrated… same outcome…
round the edges like Apple, one update circles, then squares, then circles, and take away features… players will feel betrayed…
So what Eve players want? Do they want a new fps game or do they want to run missions against Titans, with well carved stories, like big events, that will slowly change the map dynamically?
And where is the fps part in it? Can it be just ships and not humanoids? Maybe a 2D game like R-type in pixel-Art. A bunch of minigames, short and fun, to insert as full fledged games at one point?
I would buy a 2D Eve for the 3DS like now, but It’s over, so I’l play PC instead.
I’m not running a pool, but maybe FNR should.
If the numbers don’t match, try diversify.
A classic Shoot’Em’Up won’t be as blunt as A1, or 2077-33, which would sell well in Japan and not here, but just for the marketing advisors. Reality is a completely different story.
I hope to not have offended anyone in the FNR London studios.
Puzzle element can be funny and I’m past my prime for adrenalinic rushes to the last point and conquer the flag.
As always.
