DutchGunner for CSM 21 - Lore, Highsec, Events & the HUD

Hi everyone,

Another year and another run for CSM :slight_smile:

TL;DR
I have been playing EVE since 2003 and there is very little I have no experience with. In the recent years I mostly spend my time in Highsec, running public fleets for events and PVE related to Drifters and the ongoing story. I think EVE is an amazing game and I want it to do well in attracting and keeping new players and have plenty to offer to existing players as well. I believe the seasonal events and military campaigns are a great way to achive this when iterated upon and with a better integration of the ongoing lore and the impact of the players have upon it.

I will be a good source of feedback on the new HUD that is in development. If there is too much clutter or information within the HUD, I will be unable to process what is on the screen and/or what it all means. That puts me in a great position to be the inbetween other players with (simular) concerns or issues and relay that clearly to Fenris.

When it comes to Vanguard, I think the game has great potential and Fenris is taking the right approach with having both games share the same setting but still be seperate games. Vanguard is shaping up nicely to make it an enjoyable fps within New Eden without the influence and wealth that the EVE player base can yield. At the same time, EVE players shouldn’t feel that they have to play Vanguard because it could have a big impact on their gameplay. Events and lore are a great way to achieve this, when done with care.

My EVE Online Story
I have been playing EVE Online since July 2003. Up untill 2018 I spend my time wandering throughout EVE and spending weeks, months or years in High-sec, Low-sec, Null and WH space. I got tired of the player politics and backstabbing and found my place within the ARC-community just before the start of the Triglavian story-arc. I greatly enjoy chasing after the Lore, introducing players to the lore and group PVE-content and running public fleets (when possible) for events and with Drifter and Pochven content.

My areas of expertise
My expertise is with lore, highsec, events and how the different biomes within the game are connected. I have seen how excited people get when they learn about the lore and that their interactions with it can get recognized by Fenris and mentioned in the official news. It is a great source to get and keep players invested to play the game. It will need iteration and improvement to really turn it into something amazing but it is certainly something that can be done.

EVE is a complex game with a lot of different but interconnected biomes. That means that if an issue needs adressing to one part of the game, a blanket change will often disproportionately impact the other parts of the game that were not having the issue or not to the same extend. It’s a delicate balancing act that requires people that can keep this in mind at all times and I believe I can be that person.

The changes to the HUD are going to have a very big impact. Fenris has very ambitious goals with the new HUD and it’s crucial to not have the new HUD result in clutter, information overload or shortage or that it feels like change for the sake of the change. As I am vulnerable to having to track to much information on the screen at the same time, I know I can be the inbetween Fenris and the needs and feedback from us the players to make the new HUD a success by giving players the information they need in a accessible and easy to understand way.

What you can expect from me

  • I want to work with other CSM members and build on eachothers expertise, we all want to make the game better;
  • Not be biased or dismissive when something is brought up that would go against my playstyle;
  • Approach things with a “yes, and…!” approach instead of a “yes, but…!”;
  • Be open and honest in my communication (within NDA limits)
  • Be flexible for contact in non EU-timezones on Friday & Saturday

I will update this initial post as the campaign continues and questions/feedback is given and interviews are had.

Regards,

DutchGunner

Interviews I have had:

I have flown with DutchGunner for years, and his ideas on narrative gameplay for EVE would make this a better game. If you need a CSM candidate or an arbitrator pilot, I recommend DutchGunner.
