Eclipse - Quadrant 2 is Coming to EVE Online!

You can always use an upwell structure to switch to a clean clone if needed, and, honestly, I’d be surprised if that’s needed. But we’ll see.

Anyway, for me, the biggest deciding factor will probably be how lucrative the event is.

I seriously doubt they’ll shut down all gates into a system or cluster of stars. My guess is that we’ll see the creation of additional choke points.

Well, I started in 2012 playing EVE, and it really feels like the numbers are down.

I have always paid for my subscriptions. I had no desire to make EVE a second job. I did like the idea of player-driven ecosystem, but then the unintended side effects of “balancing passes” disrupted many clever schemes to introduce small-to medium gangs and supported huge blobs which is not the only type of PvP which is possible, but seems all CCP really supports.

For example, there was a fleet actually built consisting of Feroxes with an Orca, support scouts out at 160 km, logis and screening Gnosis in Orca Maintenance Bay, and production was a little lower (in 2014 ) than a fleet of Procurers with an Orca (8 miners to one tender) but not significantly so. That gang, backed by some cloak/MWD Miasmos and a few black ops cloakies to deal with scouts by the PvP side could have made for some real conflicts, scouts reporting rats approaching (in lowsec) and miners rushing to the Orcas to refit as fleet battlecruisers while the scouts warped in and pulled the logis and Gnosis screeners from the Orca Maintenance Bays to give the miners time to refit (a drilled 20 seconds), all to drive the pirates away, and then to get out of dodge before the Player-Pirate reinforcements arrived, with the Black ops ship trailing with its retinue to deal with shadowing pirate scouts. The nucleus had formed though it was a lot of work. CCP decided to remove a turret from the Ferox and to rebalance mining so the production gap became a chasm, so away with what had been a viable idea to add some content to lowsec… Oh well, CCP owns the game.

After a brief experiment (with the Gnosis) to prove a concept, I passed on my research & indy character to someone who had feeling in fingertips to implement the idea and many freighter-killer fleets found themselves short a few ships to finish off freighters. My own physical disability prevented my doing it myself.

Today I see folk still upset at station-gamers and others who subsist in “PvP” in a niche of the rules and entrapment of those unaware, but no one is using a design I had for a stabber fleet issue without weapons to bump those station gamers away from their stations by about 50-75 km in one strike (cap stable at 6300m/s) to let the real PvPers have their chance at those cowards.

Today I see people in Rookie Help Chat advising new players on courses that will get them killed early and often, thinly disguised as helping advice. No wonder 4.08% of new accounts are still playing after a month. Of course the quality of the rookies tends to justify the trolls since many of those rookie folk want to play for free forever (as omegas) and they want to do it NOW. Obviously they are not ready for EVE or any other game.

I have withdrawn from helping them with good and accurate advice as it seems mostly-accurate advice is a new form of trolling Rookies, and I cannot watch that. Even less can I watch all the folk who want to be led by the hand and who type in all caps and then flood the chat when they don’t immediately get the answers they want but rather a pointer to something to read or watch.

I used to point out to new alphas that there was no time limit on alpha, and that they could build up a cache of PLEX by buying one every 7 million ISK they made
while learning game mechanics and finding a spot where they were comfortable playing, then PLEXing when they had enough to last a few months while they expanded. There are a few players who cannot afford to pay who actually can add content to the game, and some of the qualities required were what that advice appealed to.

I did not proceed further to suggest they could have 5 accounts all omega with 4 of them sitting in station skilling the same things every month and filling extractors to sell injectors to buy more extractors and to PLEX 5 accounts with one actually playing. (I could have played that way, but I chose not to, because EVE needs paying customers.)

It is interesting to see Pvpers versus carebears in these posts, but few who realize that it is PvPers and those economically necessary carebears both against cheaters, one of which is the botter, another (with overlap) the RMT goldfarmer, and a third the player who pretends to be PvPer who hides not behind cloaks but the rules in niches in the game, never picking a fight he can’t easily win. That last category really, really needs the carebears, else he would have no prey. Finally, we have cheaters who somehow manage to dock their ships as soon as someone hostile appears in system, before much of anything could detect the entry amongst the tools CCP has provided. I would miss none of them if they left the game.

So the Quadrant is an opportunity for the real players to write a story with their ships and weapons, but seems to be missing a recorder. Where oh where is our Princess Irulan and her recorder lens? (and where are our industrialists to make the ships?)

So, in the posts, hardly anything new. Everyone thinks his/her niche is the right way to play EVE without realizing that he/she needs the folk he/she wants out of the game. The only moving part we can really do without is the cheater. There are many right ways to play EVE. That was inherent in the game design.

The gate that turned off was a 0.5 High security gate.

But who knows.

Might be more about disrupting current Trade travel routes. That would create new Trade Hubs as access to the old current Trade Hubs is cut off… (DMC nods in the direction of Jita Trade Hub)

Course depending on how Capsuleers choose to act, it could be by the end of Quadrant 2, Triglavians are going to seize control of a small number of Empire systems.

If the Trigs are successful with the help of Capsuleers, Quadrant 3 might be the Triglavians needing resources to build up their infrastructure.

If it goes that way, then Quadrant 4 would be Triglavian’s becoming a full fledged Empire Faction complete with stations and agents, possibly even be a playable race.

No, Jita station will be upgraded, and then soon after destroyed, with no asset safety. Enjoy.

As @Xeux said, numbers have been relatively stable over the past 5 years. Yes, we have had some recent dips, but PCU numbers can’t distinguish between legit players and cheaters, and botters tend to stay logged in for long stretches of time. Thus, a decreasing PCU during a time when CCP has been cracking down hard on botters is not proof that the game is failing or that CCP is destroying the game.

:joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:

Finally CCP found a way to tone down that annoying sun glare huh ?

Ya know, mining in the sites was already a thing.

Agreed. Long Live CONCORD and the Empyrean Age! Ahem, sry…got a little excited there.

I think frost meant it was a (Minmatar regional) gate to a 0.5 sec Gallente system. I’m guessing it was the Bei gate to Colelie, although the nebula and the planet… yeah, a bit of an artist’s interp there.

In any event, pretty cool looking trailer, sure. I like the new ship, I think the new citadel looks awesome, glad to see the anticipated-since-late-November return of the TRIG WORLD ARK, hells yeah… cool! distract the ■■■■ out of us, CCP, quadrant 2 = the quarantine quarter of 2020, so… let’s lock it down, eh?

:::laughing in Amarr:::

Sure… and that reason is usually because they’re too incompetent to anticipate the long term effects of their changes.

Step 1: Introduce new content, ship, or play style.
Step 2: Lots of people flock to new content and “farm” it or find ways to abuse it.
Step 3: CCP nerfs it to oblivion where nobody does it anymore and/or abandons it
Step 4: Repeat

Usually this a contracted event by someone with deep pockets. Cast enough nets, catch something right?

True, which is why I find CCP’s goal to remove repetitive gameplay, since that covers many activities in Eve.

Well, it took CCP a long time to look at War Declarations and when they did it lead to changes. Just because its felt the topic falls on deaf ears does not mean its without merit.

I watched the trailer. If the target audience isn’t already into Eve, much of it is just spaceships flying around and walking through a field of red tiberium crystals growing from the ground. I half expected Kane to walk around the corner from a triglavian ship.

Well, it would be nice if it was not a big blue doughnut and a handful of super umbrellas with tracts of empty space.

Well, T3 destroyers wouldn’t have been nearly as widely used if they did’t eclipse every hull that was smaller apart from a few niche abilities.

Its so sad because its so true.

NO NEW NERFS!!! Until after Australia is up anyway… good news to me!

How much of a pussy does one have to be to already be so afraid by a simple trailer before we even have any actual information on the content?

Man you really must be one to cry easily in front of a movie.

It’s called a reveal trailer my dude, and it showed new stuff if you had paid any intension instead of being such a butthurt.

Welp, if anything that trailer made me wish CCP had invested in doing more games in the Eve universe, especially game at ground level, instead of wasting so much time and money with ■■■■ nobody asked for like World of Dankness of VR that they had to sell out to Koreans…

Seriously, can you imagine a Mass Effect, but in New Eden? And where the ■■■■ is Dust at? What is so complicated in doing a god damn FPS?!

That’s the kind of ■■■■ CCP and Eve needs, more ways to attract now players to the Eve lore and keep the new blood flowing.
