The actual impact of this change requires the question “What percentage of payouts will the ESS take?” to be answered. And to be honest I struggle to think of a scenario that satisfies the conditions of:
Keeping Ratting Worthwhile
Making it worthwhile to go after ESS bounties
Making it worthwhile to defend ESS’s from thieves
Get that percentage wrong and you’ll either see a mass exodus from ratting, no one going after bounties, or thieves having an uncontested free-for all.
Besides that, something I’d like to see for administrative reasons: A wallet entry whenever someone steals from an ESS, which contains the system the ESS was in and the vault that was stolen from. I realize the payout is in bounty tokens, but even if it’s just a basic fee of some sort this entry is invaluable.
Finally, the rule set as it currently stands puts defenders in a complicated situation. If you want fights to result from these ESS’s, it needs to be not just possible, but realistically viable to defend them.
Lemme get this straight…CCP YOUR NEW STUFF WILL GET SCREWD, Cuz since then ESSs will now be just like TCUs and IHubs, needs to be defended, camp it, watch it, well do the required stuff to secure our money for whatever it takes, ill just take one of my alts in a Hecate and warp it to the ESS while I rat, someone comes, I log in and fck them up. Also even if my null ratting is screwed, I can do mining, do wh ratting, incursions, Idk what the burner alt is, but anyways, what u do CCP will not fck us up, we r always to here to fight your fcked up logic of fckin up peaceful players
Yup, so not only does no-one need to bother with losing bounties to the ESS if they want to make isk, the defense of it is heavily skewed towards the ratters (if they want to use it as bait) because who in their right mind would go in an area where all their propulsion is gimped that could be camped by people prepared to tackle you right where you land (needing only a web and nothing else), likely for an amount of isk worth way less than the risk.
Nice,
So first thing was that stupid bounty system change.
Now forcing us to have that stupid ESS.
Great play CCP. I see you somehow started to hate those Carebears a lot…
So now only chance for me to play this game is to buy more PLEX with real money to be able to play each month and do some stupid PVP …
Looks like I need to look for some greener pastures in some other games that can use my money better than nerfing one playstyle like hell within 10 days…
CCP, remember how you thought Hurricane Helmar and the ensuing blackout was a great idea? All of the anti-PVE haters vocally supported it as well, even though many said it was a bad idea. You persisted in insisting this was needed, but player numbers bitch-slapped that arrogant denial off of your face. Players just stopped undocking, or left null altogether until you finally listened and fixed it.
This is a really crappy idea. ESSes are a pain in the ass altogether. Nobody wants to do this.
And I know that the hordes of butt-hurt bigots, who can’t handle people who actually prefer PVE, will try to shout this down. But PVE is why I came back to playing and PAYING for eve after a long break. A lot of players enjoy PVE, but you seem determined to ruin their fun. Get rid of the mandatory ESSes.
The thing is guys we don’t have to complain about it. We just need to let CCP see what happens with it long enough to realize the mistake. They will change it when it hits their bottom line lol.
allowing afterburners seems like a dumb idea. residents can fly ab-only ships, but roaming people cannot because they don’t work outside of things like this
WIthout a single bit of ‘hey, we’re discontinuing this thing we did specifically to keep you informed’. Which, you know, makes sense. You don’t inform people that you’re no longer informing them.
Thanks for this perspective.
I can make much better isk running abyssal sites in a gila than ratting in null. However, there’s a FUN aspect to living there with some friends and just… hanging out.
CCP seems to miss so much with their poorly thought-out changes. It’s almost as if they want to limit the game’s appeal even further to an even smaller audience.
A cancerous playstyle is one which provides modest benefit to its practitioners while consuming and debilitating others.
The, as Acter Phoenix puts it, “peaceful players” believe they are the ones being debilitated by the evil pvp’ers.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. If you rat so much that these changes threaten your “playstyle,” then you don’t have a playstyle. You have an isk faucet that you are gorging yourself on. The amount of isk you feed into this game is crushing the economic balance of benefits to player activities. Your playstyle is cancerous. This change is nowhere near the chemotherapy needed to fix the problem, but combined with the dynamic bounty system, it’s a good start.
Good news! You and all your friends can live in null and make money abyss-diving. Sure, you’ll still need to rat the hell out of all of the systems to keep ADMs up, but at least now you won’t actually get paid for all that time and effort! YAY!
Good luck with this, I have done that experiment with a 500mn curse and it took me several hours. Also when I filed a support ticket asking if I could use it I was told it was an exploit. RIP novice plex recon trap dreams.
So will ESS stop paying out LP ?
Awesome, this made the Caldari ESS obscenely practical and all the rest useless while devaluing LP for everyone else in hisec/lowsec.
I see some are asking for access through a dedicated module … pls don’t.
This would give an even greater advantage to the locals, as no roaming ships/fleets will sacrifice slots for that.
There is something off by default with the new system and that is the ‘no mwd’.
This gives a huge advantage to defenders, who can have AB ships ready, and turns fighting for this into a sort of fighting over old static plexes, when MWD’s were dissalowed on their acceleration gates.
