2/8 you have to take a NOOB ship (Merlin) with ONLY 2 guns and defeat 5 (FIVE) Catalysts and 5 Frigates??? I lasted less than 10 seconds before my ship was destroyed!!! And this is the only ship that you can take in.
So any suggestions as to WHAT a NOOB can to when they are greatly overpowered in BOTH weapons and Armor
The problem, as I see it, is that the nerfed merlin which the mission says to use can only use 2 guns and is very weak against the opposition that you will face.
People in chat have said that you can use a Caldari destroyer but, I havent tried it yet.
From what I am reading here and both read in game chat yesterday, the Epic Arc for this new area is not scaled properly for the average 30 day rookie ( alpha or omega ). I would normally play test the area myself, unfortunately all my accounts are well over 30 days old, some of them omega, and all have skills up to and beyond 5 million points. I really don’t feel like making another account just to find out what we already know.
I have been told – by the experts – that you need to either fast track your rookie or grind up to using a destroyer. Which is doable for many vets in just hours, but we are talking about people here that expect to learn the game first. To alpha rookies, with no experience in Eve Online, I simply tell them; Avoid the Epic Arc until you have done the following.
Skill train for any destroyer class ship. You will need skills in lasers and drones as well. For the love of God, DON’T buy the ship in this system, players are selling them at outlandish prices! Leave the system in your pod and set course to Jita 4.4 to get one there. Alternately give Mike Azariah a shout, he might have a decent ship for you. The man hangs in Rookie Chat and gifts 30 Day Rookies free ships. I am seeing over 2 million for a Cormorant in Exordium!
New players need to be told not to do this for several weeks, unless they plan to pay cash to get gud right away. Then you are looking at more than just $20 worth of omega, you will need ISK and/or PLEX for skill injectors and augments.
Update: I have also been informed by a new player, this is suppose to be a “simulated historic battle”? Excuse me, how does a simulator blow up your ship? I sure wouldn’t expect my ship to explode during a holographic simulation.
What has me confused is why they have us use the Merlin when the Kestrel lore is all about how it’s actually an old small freighter design that during the most desperate hours of the war was retooled into a small warship, at which it performed, and continues to perform, most admirably.
