Visions of Greatness Epic Arc

Was looking forward to play the epic arc with my newbie friend. We started together, had to fly to different systems for the same quest though so we couldnt do it together natively. Apparently the game still doesnt support questing in a group and finishing stuff together. Especially for a NPE where new playes might want to do the stuff with their veteran friends who bring them into the game this should be a mandatory thing in my opinion. But it gets worse. You get a Merlin for the Caldari intro mission. Get an ECM and a Remote shield repper and are told to fly to the first mission point. Done that, suddenly the game says “kill these 10 ships” and you are just empty. No modules are given to properly finish the quest. Even together and having bought some T1 stuff from another system we couldn’t finish this mission with 2 Merlins. This is abysmal balancing, throwing off newbros big time because they struggle with the “easiest” content in the game and frustrating because the game should at least provide with simple fits that help you finish the ENTRY missions. Especially when providing modules that are needed to do a quest and MISSING to give out dps modules when you have to suddenly kill npcs. This feels like absolutely nobody tested it for a minute, neither with an existing account and certainly not with a new one.

Please at least provide beginner fits and turn down the npc dmg so that 2 players are able to do these sites.

I still believe that, the Caldari state ship that warp to you, are supposed to help you.
You can’t kill alone those Gallente’s ship with a small Merlin with what is given as basic, with NO SKILL.

Since first part of the mission is to “help them warp off” I’m not so sure about that. Anyway right now this is just broken and zkill already shows that people die a lot. We even tried to die to it in case its a “you have to loose to win the mission” kinda thing but its just a destroyed ship and mission is still to kill the 10 ships.

I though I had to die.. and the capsule left, you see Caldari fleet warping to you and you are like ‘WOW NICE! SAVED!’ and they stay put. do nothing.

wow, that is not good

I generally don’t complain about stuff like this but having completed the epic arc I’m left with one overwhelming feeling about the entire thing and that is:-

DON’T BOTHER!! It is a complete waste of time.

The rewards are small amounts of ISK and a minor faction standing upon completion of each chapter.

Yeah sure - you get a free frigate and a couple of components but that’s it.

Like the OP stated - the first chapter has you go to a point in space, ECM and do a remote repair then you get set upon by some frigates and destroyers. If you weren’t prepared like I wasn’t then you either run or wait until you find yourself sitting in your pod.

So I went back to the starting station thinking I’d missed something (which I hadn’t) - got the Merlin fitted as best I could given the fact there was hardly anything to buy then had another crack at it.

Imagine my surprise when I found that I couldn’t use the gate unless I had the remote repairer and the ECM module fitted to the ship. So that’s one Hi-Slot and one Mid-Slot completely taken by something you no longer need. So I went back, refitted and attempted to try and complete the mission. Nope all the frigates and destroyers flew around me with their MWD’s on making it extremely difficult to return fire whilst the damage I received overwhelmed my shield booster within moments so I decided to let myself die then took my pod to Dodixie to buy a Corax with rockets and a better tank.

The destroyer didn’t fair much better as you have to still give up a high and mid slot to re-enter the site and I spent more time running away than I did fighting. No NPC reinforcements turned up to help me so I had to jump to a neighbouring system to use repair facilities then return to try again and again and again.

The reward for this first chapter - 1 Million ISK plus a minor Caldari faction standing.

So onto the second chapter, the agent told me to go to Minmatar station whereby I would be given a Vigil and a few parts to do the next part of the story.

I got there only to find the Vigil was sat waiting for me at the Caldari station I had just left. OK - I thought I’d just forgot to swap ships before setting off. Nope - each chapter gives you a frigate but leaves it at the station you leave so you have to go all the way back to collect it.

I won’t say any more because I don’t want to spoil this huge lump of garbage for anyone else but suffice it to say, each chapter is a basic rinse and repeat of the first one and you will most likely spend more ISK in trying to fit your ship to survive the chapters than you will ever get back in rewards (unless your goal is the faction standings)

Cheers

Not going to lie, I really expected a crazy fight / war like in the chronicle or the landmark with many wreck and ships.
I was expecting a abyssal-dead-pocket system ( like the AIR tutorial ) where you die all the time, but live the great faction war !

If it is like that… I am a bit disappointed.

This whole expansion is more than a bit disappointing…

Have you tried using the market?

Using the market is all nice and well, but this is supposed to be for new pilots. That haven’t gotten it all figured out yet.

Besides killing 10 MWD-ing ships that you can not tank for a significant time on your first mission is not a great way to draw people in and entice them to continue to the 2nd mission.

I tried it on my alpha account and after the merlin detonated I ended the mission with a “Yeah, I do not have the time or the patience for this”.

Maybe they will revisit this (poorly tested) new content in the future and I can try again in 3 months time.

There is not one mission/epic arc in game where two people click accept and end up flying together. To do the arc with a friend they need to be in a fleet with you and they help you with your arc, then you help with theirs.

Kind of sad for a MMO.
When you do LP mission, the people in your fleet can have a shared reward.
Why it is not like that for the rest of the others mission?

You can still share mission rewards with fleet mates in epic arcs.

What you are trying to do it to run two epic arcs at the same time, your one and your mate’s. So not 1 set of missions but 2. You can share mission rewards in a fleet but it’s always someone’s mission to turn in etc.

Player A: Hey im gonna go do this epic arc you wanna help me?
Player B: Sure, set a fleet up and i’ll join you
“Player A sets up a fleet and player B joins up and they fly together to run the epic arc as Player A turns in the missions as they go, and Player B follows along”

few days later
Player B: Hey you wanna help me with my arc?
Player A: Sure, set up a fleet like i did last time and lets go.

Player A: “hey I have the epic arc available wanna do it?”
Player B: “Oh me too, let’s sync it together”

Ending to repeat it instead.

I know it would be so good for multiboxer to make it easier.
But for normal people playing with friends :)…

for 23 years its been the way i described, because every mission is random on where they start.. as for epic arcs im not sure how that would be possible linking togther, as to who is the actual owner of the mission..

I understand the legacy of all.

But take the Abysse for an another example.
You can run them with 3 frigates, co-op.
Why not doing the same for epic arc when the epic arc is for new bro, where Exordium is ‘built’ to be together and learn the rope together…

Especially when the epic arc can’t be run alone for some reason

I don’t understand how this would work you both do the epic arc and then are both blocked from doing it for 3 months (or whatever it is). Right, so 1 fewer epic arc between you than the current system.

But what if someone is in your fleet for some of the missions but not others, are they then blocked for doing the whole epic arc, because they were in 1 mission. If not, then a multiboxer can do all but one of mission of each epic arc on a bunch of characters.

Your method is poorly thought out and next to impossible to implement cleanly.

„EVE has always been like that“ also feels quite lazy as an argument in a discussion like this. You could use the same argument as to „can’t shoot people in exordium? But it always has been like that!!!“

The NPE was explicitly communicated as new content. As beginner friendly and as an entry to the game and its mechanics. So arguing with the status quo in some areas of the game for a new thing is quite illogical and also not really tackling the point: This is supposed to lure NEW players in and make them have a good time in the game so they want to explore more. Right now even veterans struggle with it and it’s fairly tedious. So it’s just not a good NPE and it quite surely is buggy as this can’t be intended by FC.
