The irony that diablo3 is the worst of them.

Good point. Well made! :+1:

I really keep telling myself to stop updating in this thread when I’ve had a few glasses of wine. The reality is the reality however. The current numbers speak for themselves, I almost feel like CCP have lost the good will of the community. Do not see a point of redemption at this stage. Genuinely hope it was worth cashing out for Hilmar - of course it was, why would he care now? This community and game was once great - I sympathise with everybody in CCP who has been forced down this rabbit hole - we are where we are and it is the fault of upper management and not those who care about the game or the fundamentals about what once made this game stand out - shameless cash grab now - amen

@CCP_Falcon please enlighten me if I am wrong in my assessment - the sad thing is the community and the game is in this position not because of the developers or the people who care about the game, but because of CCP upper management or their shareholders have brought us to this point. I hate to think of the total eve sub cash that has been wasted on vampires and dust and other grand visions not realised. I guess Hilmar knows best now cashed out - really sad state of affairs.

I think an inflexible element of the player base has more to do with it than upper management, though they continue to be in denial.

They got the game that they pushed for, for the most part.

I don’t CCP’s belated weak-ass attempts to fix it will pan out.

Why not? That might be your view, but it certainly isn’t the view of CCP or most of the 70% or so of the player base, or this old eve vet. I think it’s a lot more about being casual player than being anti-social. Most of the NS alliances are anything but casual–and while it certainly is mostly farmville, something CCP IS trying to fix, the reason most don’t go there is it’s a huge PITA with player imposed complexity most of Eve’s population doesn’t care for (e.g. 2AM alarm clock CTAs, having 3 different voice programs + pings and a list of extensive hard to do and ever changing security measures, and have 3 supers on reserve alts etc.).

@Boom_Boom_Longtime You may be right. EvE has given me many years of fun, however, and those experiences can’t be taken away regardless of what happens with EvE going forward. I’ll ride EvE down for a while, see what happens…but, yeah, it’ll never be what it once was…*shrug Oh well…

Amarr doesn’t seem the same without you perching hanging around.

All the best to you, remember all the good times!

the issue currently in going to null is having to join a bloc because no one wants to wait and gather forces and have to attack a fully established set of blocs.

also i get attacked alot by blues/corp/alliance members or get yelled at because someone is 20 jumps away and i should be docked or i get yelled at due to the ship im in, or that i should be in some fleet on the other side space owned by someone else on a gate or station

Brave do some awoxes in pirat day, and is not rare in horde neither.

More safe mine in 0.5 missions in that aspect, or low sec.

@Xuxe_Xu . Thanks for the kind words. Eve has given me so many good memories as well flying with the people and community over the years. It’s ultimately just disappointing that CCP have leached that all away cheaply and sold out what made the game unique and different. I miss logging in, miss the community as it once was, miss the feel good factor that made Eve unique. Genuinely hope CCP Hilmar and Pearl Abyss have got what they wanted with the current state of affairs.

Myself have too many years here. Have friends. Many of us think Eve Vegas must be some roadmap, and many of us hope hillmar out.

The irony that diablo3 is the worst of them.

Diablo 3 was only bad because of the real money auction house and associated problems. Once that was removed and the game rebalanced, I’d day it is at least on par with D2.

Anyway, back to the point at hand, low sever population. Here is a prime example of the issues with EVE.

I logged on yesterday and logged out about a half hour later. What I wanted to do was run Caldari Navy level 2 missions. The sequence of events went as follows:

  1. Decline first mission offered to fight Gallente because I don’t want to lower my standings.
  2. Run 2 missions
  3. 4th mission offered is another Gallente fight. I can’t decline without loosing faction standing, so missions are cut off for 4 hours unless I fly to another station, which I don’t want to do.
  4. I could do exploration missions, but weekends are terrible for this because of the number of people on, so that’s out
  5. I could mine, but that is boring
  6. I could run a load of stuff to Jita, but that is also boring and I don’t want to do that

I decided to log off and do something else. It’s like the game devs for EVE actively want to bore the player to death at times.

Lol

You’re bored only because you look at the most utterly boring and hand-fed activity in the game, like missions or mining, or exploration “missions”.

Up your game a little and find new ways to entertain yourself. Plenty of that in Eve if you use a few more braincells than you’re used to.

Using braincells is indeed considered fun to some people…

Don’t want that ? Fine then go look for some other game.

I love this mentality about EVE players; it’s not the games fault, its the players fault for being too stupid to figure out what to do.

And people wonder why the active player numbers continue to decline.

I think both points are somewhat valid, although of course being EVE the “find better things to do” gets delivered with an unneeded dose of “you’re an idiot”.

Yes, there are many other things to do in EVE, and maybe boredom with the current routine means you should try some of them out. Unfortunately, a good number of those require significant investment, time commitment during a play session, the availability of other players etc.

There is no question that these days, with the amount of F2P competition out there, the more successful games are those that offer a reasonable expectation of a decent gaming experience in a limited amount of time. Say 30-60 minutes.

As Bossman ONeil pointed out, EVE often presents difficulties and barriers and penalties for the casual gamer seeking a short but interesting gaming session. I think that in a number of ways, in the aim of making a game where “decisions matter and choices have consequences”, CCP has gone a little too far towards implementing obstructions to casual play and not enough towards facilitating convenience.

This does not mean that EVE could or should cater primarily to the casual gamer, but quite obviously player numbers are hurting badly despite going F2P, bringing in tens of thousands of Chinese players from the Serenity reboot, and running frequent ‘please log in!’ events.

EVE had better find some demographic to start catering to lest it find itself with too few players to satisfy anyone.

Exactly the points raised by Sion Kumitomo before he left (was kicked out of?) the CSM and was ringing the bell about the jeopardy eve would be placed in if things didn’t change.

Of course met with derision by the usual apes waving around that 2003 post like a talisman because eve was of an unsinkable titanic that didn’t need to waste space thinking about lifeboats.

Well 4 year later here we are, hey ho.

The player numbers are slowly but steadily rising again afte the end of the blackout so what are you talking about?
Did you expect them to instantly return to pre blackout numbers?

Nope, it’s never the game’s fault if you can’t figure out ways to successfully entertain yourself with it.

This game has always been about creating the fun for yourself, and not being spoon-fed it.

It’s called a sandbox.

What you do with the sand, is entirely up to you.

He’s just telling you the truth, a truth that has always been the case.

When I started in 2007 I was told that eve is pretty much just a backdrop, I have to make my own fun. That was fine because thats what I do anyways, its why I dont loke theme park games that tell you what is fun.

The real problem is that most gamers need scripted content and have trouble in situations where they need to make their own. Its why most people will watch a movie but very very few will write a screen play for one.

Ccp has never ever been good at delivering theme park style experiences so expecting them to suddenly develop the talent is kind of crazy.
