Jenn, 4 years ago this game and the community was alive, fun, vibrant and different from anything else out there - fast forward 4 years and ccp sold the core ethos of the game they created out with watering down what made eve the game it was, removing conflict drivers, pve, more pve, events, skins, skill injectors, shameless cash grabs, log on for free sp - a theme park totally against the core principles of what this game once represented and why it had a loyal player base - that has now been totally irreparably damaged by how reckless and blatantly the cash grab has influenced change with obvious effects. Joking apart, I hope the shareholders and those in ccp who pushed for the cash grab take responsibility as the demise continues. Again, can only hope CCP Hilmar & Pearl Abyss are content that the cash grab is out weighing the concurrent player base demise in the short term for their gains. As it stands though if the concurrent continues not sure how Pearl Abyss will get a return on the investment - if i’m wrong please somebody let me know.
if anybody from CCP or the ISD wish to assert I am wrong in my assessment - please do. Joking apart, extremely sad state of affairs and how did we get here alas?
I think the cash grab as actually saved eve, those investors could have pulled the plug at any time. Its better that its in another companies hands, at least one that knows a thing or two about mmo’s and not just a suit with cash and a bunch of board members.
I can only describe this game design as unsustainable. It’s fine though and I’m not against it. I’ll get plenty of entertainment watching everyone crying about the active users and such. Anyway, when is CCP going to remove that number from the launcher? I guess people would crap their pants if they removed it, though.
There’s something that I don’t get about Eve players, and it’s this thing about content. As a player of video games (because Eve is not my job like it is for some) I find it odd that Eve players think they are the content. Eve is a video game to me, much like any other. People shoot each other, build stuff, and talk about stuff, buy and sell stuff in other games. But no one else says they are making content. That’s just an Eve player thing.
Oh wait, I think I hear someone typing a very self-important reply telling me they really are content. Sure you are pal, sure you are.
PvP. There’s something you don’t get about PvP.
Right, the PvP thing. You know, when people participate in PvP in hundreds of other games, they don’t claim they are creating content. That content was created by the developer, the gamers are just playing it. I get PvP though. Totally get it. It’s popular, I’ve seen it on teh interwebz.
Maybe if Eve’s PvP didn’t suck, more people would play it? Can we agree on that?
I sincerely doubt that.
I do. I’ve played in many different PvP games. It can be great if it’s done well. Sometimes there’s an even playing field with no advantages besides best practices and skill, reflexes and such. In others, there are advantages in abilities, spells, weapons, and teamwork in some game modes. There are lots of team based games like mobas that allow players to customize their playstyle throughout the match, and shooters like Overwatch that focuses heavily on your team’s composition, teamwork, and coordination.
And then there’s Eve, where you get ganked or blobbed. Some people travel through empty systems for a few hours at a time looking for a “good fight”. So, is there something I’m not getting?
Yep, that’s your problem.
You know what happens in a Moba when a professional team rolls in on your pug? You get ganked. Same in any PVP game. Just the lack of long term consequences means peopke don’t care as much.
While EVE has issues, the fact ganking exists is not one of them. (The nature of ganking maybe, that’s a different question from ganking existing though).
Erm no.
No. This is not true.
The problems with diablo 3 started before the auction house was a glint in blizzards eye. Before diablo 3 was even released the community wasn’t happy with design decisions or even the artwork.
And that’s before you get into the incestuous lez hirlings designed to get wow-fan boy-neck beards excited…
Agree with that. I think many of us play Here Because Diablo II and LOD have problems with current computers. The complexity of find grey ethereals to do runewords, and the randomness give many replayability- I think if Bñlizzard can restore that level of logic/randomness, as a Diablo2-LOD remastered, can be as a nuke to many MMORPGS, including EVE.
Damn, if D2 were subscription based and no lost of items for 90 days inactivoty, i surely pay at least three accounts for myself.
Diablo 2 -LKOD remastered is one of my hopez for nextmonth blizzcon.
Aww you’re ignoring my awesome post!
And put pressure back on CCP to fundamentally change something about NS farmville that returns.
Was 30k the other day. Looks like the summer slump is (predictably) ending.
I think you mean “peak numbers for a few minutes the other day hit 30k, but even with a log-in event ongoing the Concurrent Average Online is still below 20k” (thread topic).
Plus, ‘summer slumps’ don’t normally end in October (predictably).
Logged on the other day around 30 minutes after DT and the player count was less than 10K, that’s not something I see very often.
I wonder how many are like myself, log into the game, kill a few rats for the sp and log out again and play something else.
Oh, and my mining, industrial and science skills haven’t changed since the character was created. So not a mining bot or any other bot.
Main reason I can’t be bothered with this game atm is the roaming Trigs they’re nothing more than a pain in the butt.
No…
Yes…
Yes, peak concurrent (meaning: at the same time) was about 30k the other day.
And yes summer slumps usually recover into November. Check the numbers. Summer slump is around May to around November, Chicken Little.
