Implementing what you want will allow for a much quicker decline, which I guess you could see as merciful, but sitting there looking at that mountain of isk youāve made the night before the server gets shut down is going to be a bit of a kick in the gut.

Are you ā ā ā ā ā ā ā shitting me? Were a list of PVE MMOs compiled, you would see a staggaring majority of them either dead, or in a zombie state. Why? Because theyāre boring.
Eve, otoh, has been around for 15 years (well above the average life expectancy for any game) and still has active subscribers and active development.

There has to be a trade off for safety, right? I donāt believe the removal of wardecs (kinda) or ganking really cuts it.

Youāve been getting what you want for 6 years. It has never lead to more people playing the game. It has only achieved the exact opposite.
From the moment it started it did the opposite of what you said it should. And every continuation down that road has sent the game further in the opposite direction you said it should.
There is not one instance where making the game safer has corresponded with an increase in the gameās activity. Not ONE.
Everything points the other way.
