Eve is Dying!

I do not know about that.. As my interest in the game lasted about an hour and half of actual game time. Did the tutorial. My granddaughter took me on a small tour of some of the places of interest. I found I had no interest in either the game itself or the, admittedly, its extensive lore. Eve Online and the other game is what I enjoy.

Mostly I tried it to get her back into gaming after a bad breakup. It was what she saw interesting and liked doing a few years back. She now runs a small, but growing guild.

Beyond that I do not know much more about the game. shrugs

I would have to ask my granddaughter. As I do not recall myself where it is.

Im one of those WoW players that never took it very seriously like most do. I didnt raid that much as time was usually a challenge. I have however been playing since vanilla and have visited the game at every expansion…Legion being my favorite.

I have several hundred hours in the game with a void elf warlock. I have yet to try the war within expansion. One day ill revisit it. On the other hand, i know of no graveyards in the game or outside the game. Id be curious if any do exist though.

Im betting a more dedicated wow player around here could confirm it for sure.

Same. A good friend of mine tried to get me into WoW and I had pretty much the same experience.

Sounds quite nomadic and solitary. Are you a part of a group of people or mostly a soloer? The people aspect can change how you see MMOs vs RPGs. I come and go with groups and people in game over my game lifespan. Sometimes Im with people other times Im totally solo for a while doing my thing.

Ive always found that creating huge goals, whether I accomplish them or not, have kept me going. The process of getting some idea of something I want to try, researching it and then diving in and to attempt it and then accomplishing it have helped me stay engaged throughout my capsuleer career. Be that in high, low, null, whs, be that mining, missioning, PvP, R&D/Manufacturing, etc. I just grab and idea and run with it and try to perfect it a bit and then eventually I get bored of it and go do something else.

Im glad you are going to keep your character and come back and check in. Good luck with whatever you end up doing gaming-wise, and hopefully Eve will be here when you get back.

Yeah cute post can I have your stuff ?

The biggest problem in EVE is that you can read all the info, watch all the videos, ‘know’ how to do something…but nothing is ever quite what you expect. That makes it fun, but it also often means that actually doing something is the only way to gain the experience required to do it.

I’ve only played solo hence the playing EVE like a RPG line. Never was interested in playing in a group. I think that maybe group play would make playing less boring if you were into that. Just not my thing.

I’ll be back in the states in couple of months and will probably upgrade so I can try games I cannot currently play, probably Cyberpunk 2077 and Lies of P. Unless I want to fry eggs on my laptop, these 2 are currently not possible.

I’m glad you are able to find meaning and continue to enjoy EVE Online. It is a really good game. I just think that with more story driven content and complexity, it would be a great game.

Eve is a multiplayer game.

If you played it like it is intended to be played, with other people, you would not want any more story.

Totally agree.

It’s Friday, so I can pull some shenanigans.

Is Multibox playing if others? Are we condoning Schizophrenia?

The way I understood, people are using multis to play by themselves overcoming the group needed barrier. I’m at a border here, a dangerous one. Not that I don’t have my own opinion on the matter, but why not cause disruption?

Whats the intended EVE way here? I wonder…

Multiboxing achieves some of the things playing with others does, but by no means all of them.

If you belong to a decent sized alliance in EvE all sorts of gameplay becomes easier and you can choose the things you want to do to help and benefit from others doing the things you cba with.

Maybe 4 multiboxers in different timezones could do what a large alliance does, but even then it’d be a lot of work and much easier achieved with a couple of hundred real players.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. This is what drove me to start the in-character blog. If you take content like missions, each one of them could be a little story, a unique adventure. In reality, the mission descriptions are shallow, a feeble attempt to disguise “go and shoot 15 frigates” narrative.

Epic arcs are somewhat better but internally inconsistent - it’s not always clear how one mission leads to another. I have just finished a fictionalised account of all 50+ missions Blood-Stained Stars (SOE arc), and had to spend a lot of time papering over the cracks in the story line. I had fun doing that as a writer, not so much as a player.

Giving players different choices which would influence the outcome of the mission would make it more appealing to RPG fans. The SOE arc had only one such choice at the end which did not affect the plot.

To conclude, I believe there is a lot of RPG potential which FC could unlock if they put more effort into it which would make Eve an even greater game.

While it is true that Eve is a multiplayer game, it does not imply that every activity must involve playing with or against other players. It is obvious from the game design that it caters for both solo and social players. Therefore, there is nothing wrong about wishing to improve the experience of soloes.

Sure, wish all you want.

I asked my granddaughter about that cemetery that she took me to on that little tour. Yes, it is a cemetery, but it is a monument to Michael Koiter. But my confusion was that it looked like cemetery. With several deceased players headstones around it. A little known and not publicized fact. That a long time player that has died in RL. Their guild and friends can petition Blizzard to have a grave stone placed in their name.

My granddaughter knew Michael Koiter as she was one of the Beta testers and did some of the early bug hunting for Blizzard just before release.

You will have to pardon an old man. As I saw something that looked like and mentioned only in passing what he believed he saw. Was not trying to start a controversy.

I’ve immortalized EVE on my hard drive. When I buy a new computer I will transfer the old hard drive to be a D:\ drive and EVE’s user-end files, including screenshots, will still be there, reminding me what a beautiful game it was.
