EVE Online DX12: Resizable BAR / AMD Smart Access Memory support – enable or disable?

Hi everyone,

Does EVE Online benefit from Resizable BAR with NVIDIA GPUs or AMD Smart Access Memory with Radeon GPUs, particularly when using DirectX 12?

My questions:

  1. Has Fenris tested or recommended ReBAR / Smart Access Memory for EVE Online under DX12?

  2. Is ReBAR enabled by default in NVIDIA’s EVE Online driver profile?

  3. Is there a reliable way to verify its actual use by the game, beyond checking that it is enabled on the system?

  4. Should it be enabled or disabled for EVE? Are there reproducible benchmarks showing differences in FPS, frame times or stability?

I would appreciate clarification from Fenris or anyone who has tested this, including experiences with AMD Radeon GPUs.

Thanks! o7

EVE is usually CPU-bound, not GPU memory-bound, so it’s unlikely to benefit much from turning on ReBAR.

But in general you should turn on ReBAR. Games that do benefit from it benefit a lot, while only a very small set of games are hurt by it, and they’re generally older titles that a modern GPU can easily handle anyway.
