No, I think the idea was to expand what they had for structures to ships. And have an additional revenue source…
I do believe some of these outrageously-priced paints have better cheaper alternatives. Personally, I don’t find Tyrannos Zinc Metallic as good as a Blue Racer Cobalt Metallic, and the latter is 10000 times cheaper! (If you can even find the former). Sometimes there is a placebo effect in play believing a more expensive paint looks better.
But if the designer uses an expensive paint, it’s gonna be included in the price of the SKINr for sure.
Can custom skins be duplicated?
Is my “one of a kind” just another, easily reproduced coat of paint?
Yes (with a bit if trial and error), although with twin patterns and a lot more colors and designs to choose from - it’s not as easy as it once was. But if you mean being able to simply copy/import a current SKIN, no.
Good. I bought that one to be unique.
Some SKINS are next to impossible to replicate because you need to use a very specific set of patterns and colors in the right layer, order and orientation.
Actually, you can, if the author sends you the link to his SKINr design. It’s possible to link your designs in chat, etc, where it will open PS with the exact setup for the SKINr you created, and then you can just sequence that very same design yourself. I know that’s not what you meant. It needs the author’s link to their SKINr in order to do it, and if it’s someone who sells their designs you are very unlikely to get your hands on that link. You’ll just have to go by your best guess of what they used to create it.
I’m just saying, because not everybody knows that it’s possible to link the SKINr designs.
Thanks for the clarification. Yes, if the author/designer sends you a link and you have all the necessary design elements - you can.
On my monitor, from what I can tell, the some of the new SKINR elements are identical. As an example, in the metallic section, Graphite Void, Burnt Patina, and Deep Space Iron all appear to be identical. And none of them appear “metallic”.
If they’re indicated as metallic then they are indeed metallic. Some are definitely more “radiant” than others, though. I haven’t checked the specific ones you mentioned - though I will.
Some of the new metallic ones are very similar (but they are not identical) and some don’t look like they’re metallic at all (they might be once you undock into space, though). That’s another problem – the lighting in the Paragon Studio isn’t really adequate to illuminate all the surfaces well (it’s especially problematic with vertical planes).
I did a split screen shot, from two accounts, side by side, real time. The color on the left (as it is rendered on my monitor at exactly the same time) is Deep Space Iron, and the color on the right (again, as it is rendered on my monitor) is Burnt Patina.
To my eyes they appear to be the same color, and to me, matte, not metallic.
I don’t know what to tell you about this, let me know if you have suggestions to correct this.
I just wanted to draw the attention of @Arthur_Aihaken and @Meridan_Night
You can see the names clearly in the last two shots.
Oh noes! Metals look matte in the dark! They do look similar, but are different shades, kinda like what you would get comparing different blacks or whites. Also, metals don’t need to be shiny, they can be dull.
@Malak_Starfire
To your eyes they look like different shades?
Maybe it’s just my vision, and I’m fully prepared to accept that, if everyone else agrees…but, to me…they look the same.
I’m honestly just asking…

Yes, they are different shades, the Burnt Patina is darker. Again they are very similar though.
Thank you for responding.
I can’t tell a difference, at all. They look like exactly the same color.

p.s. lol, makes you wonder what everyone else “sees”, when you’re all looking at the same thing.
They’re different. I went and checked. Not much different, in fact they are nearly identical, stress being on the word ‘nearly’. I do agree that they are similar enough that maybe there’s not much point of having the two of them, difference should be greater, but go figure.
They’re virtually identical. In addition, I think both are missing the “metallic” component. If I had to guess, both were assigned the same color without the metallic aspect (only the name is different). I’ll mention that on the SKINR discord later and see what the devs think. Thanks.
This problem is a lot bigger than just 2 colors. If you’re gonna bring it up, then you might as well mention that Graphite Void, Deep Space Iron, and Burnt Patina (3 colors) look practically identical. Also nearly identical-looking are Osmium Vine and Emerald Oblivion.
I don’t see metallic shine to these ones either: Helian Tin, Electrum Flare, Royal Aureate, Osmium Vine, Emerald Oblivion, Phosphate Flux, Electrified Chrome, Forgotten Silver, Muted Chrome, Gravastar Black.
That’s a lot. I actually think these were not supposed to be metallic, but got accidentally named and categorized as such. So either they need to be made metallic, or moved to their proper categories.
