EVE Online on Linux on ARM – FEX + Proton or Box64 + Proton?

Hi all,

I’m planning to experiment with running EVE on ARM hardware under Linux
and would love to hear if anyone has similar experience.

Hardware:

  • Radxa Orion O6N (CIX P1, 12-core ARM, Immortalis-G720) + RX 5700 XT via M.2-to-OcuLink (PCIe Gen4 x4)
  • Radxa Dragon Q8B (Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, Adreno 690) as a standalone SBC

Questions:

  1. Has anyone run EVE on a comparable ARM board with a discrete AMD GPU?
  2. FEX-Emu + Proton or Box64 + Proton — any preference on current state?
  3. Any known issues with Panthor/PanVK (Immortalis-G720), Turnip (Adreno), or RADV (RX 5700 XT) in this context?
  4. Rough performance expectations for a single client?

Starting point will be Steam + Proton. Any tips, warnings, or reports would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Can’t help you there, but i suppose this is even more exotic than the count of us Linux players although it is constantly rising…

However i once tried the obvious thing to run EVE Anywhere on a Pi 4 since Chrome is available there and we have 3D acceleration, but it never worked, while EVE Anywhere was thing…

My goal at some day would be to run it on a Pi 5 or whatever is then current without additional hardware.

Last time i tried, i think i had also the problem that the launcher itself was still 32bit and therefore box64 was not enough, but i think that has changed now.

So i wish you success and if you have, please do a report, so one can try to replicate.

Confirm this is very interesting. I wish you well.
I also tried to do eve anywhere off a tablet; would have been nice to go to fanfest and now carry a full laptop. It never worked. Then I tried to fire up a vpn and push it through, it worked…and then I left the country and it didn’t work again.
