Eve Online's Absurd Kill/Loss System

There should be a character limit on replies

That’s factually wrong.
He did write in order to make propaganda for him being elected later on.

He did not record what occurred
He did write what was good for him.

Stories are written by the victor.

No it isn’t wrong. Archaeologists have uncovered the sites of numerous Caesar battles such as the one with Vercingetorix and established the battles occurred exactly as Caesar described. Heck…the ramparts for that battle are still there ! Caesar went to great pains to record his battles accurately…precisely because he wanted to show off how well his tactics worked. That was the propaganda, for the audience at home.

I think its safe to assume you don’t rise to any significant positions of power by being a liar and stay there for long

Some battles can’t even be geographically pinpointed, least verified.

No…I’m not gonna cite stuff that is common knowledge among historians. I simply don’t care what you ‘believe’.

Oh, and the site of the battle with Vercingetorix has been precisely pinpointed ( there is even an entire Time Team episode on it ). Caesar’s ramparts are still there.

Sheesh…its like asking me to cite evidence that Stonehenge exists.

You mean “stuff that I believe”.

I did not ask evidence for Alesia. Why are you making up that request ? I said that on the opposite of what you claim, that is that ALL the battles Caesar described were precisely correct and therefore his testimony is used and undoubtful history, some battles he mentioned can’t even be pintpointed. So claiming that he is truthful when in reality we have no proof for many battles (for example when he claims that the ennemy armada is made of 200 war boats while his generals claimed most of them fishing boat) is only your belief .

You’re usually decent with arguments, but this one surprises me. I actually don’t see a rebuttal here, so please continue confirming my point for me.

Your long ramble about Cesar being a relatively credible figure in history was not because he said „dig up my killmails“ in one single kind of primary source, but precisely because there exists multiple correlating primary sources between his works of authorship and other verifiable primary sources — beyond excavations such as artifacts, depictions, pictorial iconography (mosaics, paintings), etc.

If you scroll up, you’ll see my point was that Killmails are just one kind of primary source but Eve Onlines history is made up of so much more.

You’re the one raging about „there’s no history if there’s no killmail“ as if you’re King Arthur desperate to prove you’re real — because you’re not producing any other kinds of works of authorship nor artifacts like photos and videos.

I’m not sure how you did it, but we are actually in agreement, you just won’t let yourself recognize it, I guess out of your own stubbornness.

Edit: And since there exists a pattern of me receiving „you’re just gaslighting me“, let me head it off and say this:

The only way I can see a healthy debate on the merits of an argument being called a „gaslight“ is if one truly believes any attempt to change their mind is a sign of psychological manipulation. And therefore any actual change of mind a sign of psychological frailty or weakness. That isn’t true, and holding this belief is profoundly unenlightened.

No…I’m not going to bother with some silly and pathetic argument over exact semantics that people on this forum love. My general point stands. Don’t bother with retorts as I am by this stage beyond caring.

Why is that?

But you need the primary source in the first place in order to have anything to ‘correlate’ to. Without the detailed historical record you’d have a much harder, and far less complete, job of depicting what happened.

That is my point. You need some sort of primary anchor for history. Just as Ramesses The Great generally is an anchor for the timeline of ancient Egypt…despite ( unprovable ) claims the entire history of ancient Egypt is 200 years out.

As for gaslighting…a comment such as ‘the confusion you are having’ isn’t the very epitome of it ?

I don’t recall Caesar mentioning his killboard in any of his writing.

How about asking the ISD to close this thread that has wandered off into strange imaginative worlds.

ISD…close the thread. Every conceivable point has been made a dozen times.

It’s like you’ve never heard of a politician.

And?
