And?
I don’t care about the lore, i care about being able to play a videogame without needing to resort to having to use multiple names, its one universe, and gameplay and the player experience should come above all else

I understand your objection. As I wrote. This requires change by CCP. Let’s hope this will come upon us
I am aware of most players giving damn about lore and role play. The long survey results are unambiguous:
Will we have to join Faction Warfare to be able to use the 4th character for Vanguard?
No thats entirely separate as far as it sounds, its basically contracts to recover a thing, you will probably be able to run missions to aid one side or the other though, vanguard is PvPvE anyway
I highly second this. Technically there should be nothing that would prevent us from having a capsuleer skill tree and a warclone skill tree. If we can download into all these bodies, then why not one that isn’t shoved into a pod?
I suppose on a meta level, it would allow for capsuleer pilots to feel more invested into Vanguard.
So in that vein, consider the following hypothetical story CCP of what this could become:
A capsuleer constructed structure is anchored ready to begin colonization of a planetary body. Its the final stage of a soveriegnty fight in null sec in the future. Anchoring an orbital platform would facilitate the easy deployment of manpower and material to the surface. Its also the vehicle by which capsuleers can jump clone into a warclone body for that planetary body.
The attackers have managed to break through the defenses in space, but the defenders are dug in on a planetary body, its the final fight to determine who has control of the system, and as a consequence, the constellation. Its the last to fall in the region. The defenders are making their final stand. They’ve had this space for five years, invested so much of their time, their wealth and their emotions into one last stand on the surface of this planetary body. The attacking alliance deploy their vanguards, but are struggling to make any progress. Land mines are strewn all over the surface making any advance on foot or via vehicle incredibly difficult and slow work. The defenders have managed to buy themselves enough time to deploy a reinforced shield emitter around the settlement where they’re holed up.
Needing additional manpower knowing full well the assault that’s about to be launched on them, the defenders manage to get a few subcapital ships through the attacking fleet’s defenses that contain warclone bays. The ships enter low orbit and start deploying the warclones in their dropsuits. They manage to get an additional 30 troops to the surface before they’re blown out of the sky by a wing of Tornado battlecruisers.
The attackers know that they’re now outgunned and want to increase the numbers they have attacking to try and mitigate as much of the defender’s advantage that they can. A wing of capsuleer pilots are ordered to dock with the colonization platform and switch into a warclone body. They’re sent down with dropships containing equipment such as artillery, supplies and vehicles. They start by building an encampment, their own planetary headquarters to group up, store supplies and ready the assault.
With everything now in place, the attackers advance forward and the fate this one planet holds is the fate of an entire alliance making their last stand.
I agree entirely, but alas i suspect we might be too far in to the development pipeline that we are basically screwed
I have to admit it would be pretty cool to see pilots you fight often in space on the ground too. But ultimately, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Besides you can always name your warclone something like Phaades warclone and people will get it.
I’m actually excited for all this, if they pull it off it could be masterful
Yes but it looks like something a 12 year old would name their character, it looks horrible and do we really want it to look like a console lobby? i thought we had standards
Adding a little more clarification after discussions on Discord (you guys are awesome) and from CCP ShortFall in particular, so many thanks to them.
They have stated that using your normal EVE character for Vanguard doesn’t match what they’re trying to do currently, but they’re “never saying never” on that regard. Currently Vanguard are a special breed (of clone?).
Any word on if we’ll have Orbital Strike capability?
Thats fine, just let shortfall know that means the game does not match what i want to play currently, once they decide to actually embrace the ONE UNIVERSE they themselves created i will play their game, i just suspect that by the time that happens the game will have failed
Which is something they decided, they could easily create a “lore” reason for proper gameplay mechanics, hell i’ll throw him a freebie, remote control of a clone body using something similar to a pod, there you go, instantly bridged the 2 universe, you’re welcome
It must be distracting to work with someone who is named Potato Battery. Who and why ok’d this name?
There is also skepticism toward EVE online spinoffs. I am not sure when people learn one of the developers is called potato battery wether it gives them confidence or not.
Maybe something worth considering for next time. Cant change it now tho but not the end of the world, if the game is good it will speak for itself.
HYPE TRAIN!
HONK HONK CAN’T STOP THE HYPE!
PvEvP games are also notoriously complicated. And mostly it just ends up with one group of players being griefed by another. So good luck to CCP with trying to accomplish something great with this concept. PvEvP sound great in the board rooms and what not tho. Im sure. haha
Why whats wrong with it, probably a reference to the old lemon battery we all did in science class, their names don’t have to be serious, and to be fair, after 20 years, finding a name that isn’t already taken is going to prove to be annoying
Yup dude it’s blind faith atm.
All we gotta do is trust CCP. This has always sounded like a good idea on paper but I’ll leave the technicals to the devs.
after 20 years, finding a name that isn’t already taken is going to prove to be annoying
What do you think making an FPS that is captivaitng and enjoyable is going to be? Something being annoying is not an excuse. Just saying
You seen what Elite Dangerous did to their FPS?
It’s horrid.
In fairness, ccp does have form on making fps games.
DUST was actually pretty good.
It was the whole “exclusive to an end of life console platform” thing that burned it.
Not really sure what making a game has to do with picking a name though, show us on the doll what the potatoes did to you in the past that this guys name triggers you so badly
