Well… I made an alt to “try out” playing an evil character. it lasted five minutes. After my first “murder” in game, I felt horrible and deleted the toon. I still believe if you can have fun being a murderous, heartless player in a game, there’s some darkness in the IRL life of that player.
I literally cannot fathom having a mindset where someone could enjoy being brutal to someone else of lower experience… even in a game.
The concept of that kind of mentality to play in such a way is incomprehensible to me. I made that alt in response to another player saying exactly what you wrote. I figured “I’m a kind-hearted, loving person, maybe it’s true. One can play and enjoy being opposite of their IRL personality”. Nope. I literally felt sick after that first murder in space.
I hold to my opinion that a person who plays with such wickedness in game (intentionally and enjoys it) has some darkness in their IRL heart.
After all, though it is “just a game”, there’s a real person on the other side of the pixels on screen… I just cannot fathom the sort of heart that would take pleasure in pretending to be a murderous, ruthless, cold-blooded killer.

Look, I have to treat you as a normal player/poster, because it’s impossible for me to know your real-life story and any issues you might have. And even if I did know, your perspectives are still unjustified from any philosophical/scientific perspective.
Your reasons would be factual if you actually knew those people in real life, and could at least establish some correlation between behaviors, if not outright causation, in a remotely objective manner. But you don’t know those people. You’re making assumptions about them, and that’s the core of the concept of prejudice—judgement in advance, which is in fact an irrational emotion.
All of this talk about new players is just your mind subconsciously deviating toward the easier argument to attack. Pretty much everyone who’s ever argued against ganking tried to frame the situation as new players being the focus and majority of ganking, theft, and related activities. Note how you brought up new players, which weren’t mentioned anywhere else in this thread.
But the fundamental truth of villainy in this game is that the older, wealthier targets are prioritized almost all of the time, as can be evident by the fact that the average value of a gank, in the vicinity of 200 million ISK, is greater than the value of the average null-sec kill, which is an area of the game ostensibly populated predominantly by veterans.
If you can’t understand something, then that’s even more of a reason why you shouldn’t pass judgement on anyone.
There’s darkness in ALL of us, in you as well, so you might as well get off your high horse and come break bred with us, your highness.

This is a vidya game. What we do it in has little reference on our real life morals and values, considering the vidya game isn’t real.
Yep. And they are murderering pixels, not people. I killed a ton of people in Halo last night. Does that make me evil? I mean when I skewered a dude from across the map I cheered. I also cheered when I grav hammered a warthog full of people off a cliff. Am I ebil?
There’s also a real person on the other side of the three characters mercilessly attacking you as they tend to do with most people that suggest their psychopathic behavior is anything but roleplay.

Reminds me of when I thunderstormed Alliance players off of high places on my Orc shaman. They raged pretty hard, especially when they had to run back a long way after getting their corpse.
Anyway, it’s just about lights out at my super-max where I’m serving consecutive life sentences for all those murders I did. I hope the guards don’t beat me in the shower again.

It was my mom, yes indeed. Funny thing? That shirt trick made me the most nervous of the entire speech. After that it was much easier AND I can say I have done magic on stage in Vegas.

Sure, there is “seal pup clubbing” in EvE, but new players are not the ones flying freighters and Hulks and Mackinaws…and in very many cases any of the ships ganked.
Perhaps “of lower experience” really most often really means “of lower attentiveness”, “of lower preparation”, etc. Also - no matter how long a person has been in EvE, these people are gamers not babies! Many, many players who have played EvE for many years have been ganked by players who have not been in the game nearly as long at all (some even fit into the category ‘new player’ who *gasp! aren’t necessarily victims)

There are many reasons people gank. IMO it is endlessly interesting to find how thin the veneer of civility so many of the self-professed “peaceful” miners “who just want to relax peacefully” actually so often is when their virtual pixels are rustled even slightly.
