Wait… I though all miners are NPC’s.
Are you telling me “real” pilots actually waste their time staring at rocks all day?

Of course they do, they clear whole belts. And they build all the NPC ships with it, what did you think they come from? 
Not, it was to give players a reason to stand up and fight for their resources. Or pay someone to do it. Unfortunately most decide just to dock up or move place because they are afraid to lose pixel spaceships if they would actually fight.
We had a go at killing them learning what there defence group did and how they worked. Fun ish to do you get ore and skin drops but it would have been more useful if we had been miners , stopping them stripping systems.
Not sure why people don’t run them off more often

Actually, when I used to mine in Azerakish, totally alone in the system, it had that spooky all alone feel from Alien…which I quite enjoyed and even called my mining ship Nostromo.
