So often I hear the ‘I just want to chill in space’ line from miners. As if any combat in the game was ruining their transcendental connection with The Monad and mystical source of all being.
Of course…never mind that 90% of the ships in the game are combat ships and the miner is the start of the production chain for those. I mean, never mind that the miner may well mine the very minerals that make the Catalysts that gank him…huh. Oh, but the mystical Monad experience clearly doesn’t include reflections on karma.
And never mind that destruction is the very basis of the economy in EVE, without which the miner’s ore would be worthless, as it is precisely destruction and the need for new ships that prevents ore stocks reaching infinity and the economy collapsing.
So the miner is like someone running a munitions factory who wants to have a mystical ‘leave me alone’ transcendental ‘just chilling’ experience on the balcony of his factory…and who vehemently objects to his factory being demolished by the very munitions he churns out.
All roles in EVE are chosen by the player themselves. Which is the very thing that makes EVE totally fair. A person can’t complain that a lion is chomping at their backside if they have chosen to be a wildebeest in the first place.
But my point was more that nobody really escapes involvement in the great predatory cycle. The wildebeest of EVE are effectively producing the material that makes the teeth of the lions. Karma !
From Upanishads…a perfect analogy of EVE…
“'I am food, I am food, I am food! I am the eater of food, I am the eater of food, I am the eater of food! I am the poet (who joins the two together), I am the poet, I am the poet! I am the first-born. Before the Devas I was in the centre of all that is immortal. He who gives me away, he alone preserves me: him who eats food, I eat as food.”
Im glad im not hanging with those miners. That would be a boring group to hang with. On the other hand:
Im a proud miner…always will be.
I never consider myself fodder…because i dont allow myself to be.
I love the pvper, the ganker, the griefer, the back alley trash. I love them all.
They all fill my pockets sooner or later. Im a member of a corp that all feel the same way. I dont know where all these other miners are mingling at…but it sounds like a boring party to me.
Nope. Either mine in more dangerous space and either be bait or just kill them yourself, or you can hire/be friends with those who will defend you or gank have them gank others. You could also just be unattractive to kill or mine in places where gankers don’t want to go, or would rather not go through the effort of finding you.
You are boring in your own way in your own one-dimensionality of pvp only that you carry before you like a monstrance.
You really should join the people that play the game right, and with that i mean EVERYTHING beside pvp Hell even trolling makes more sense than killing each other in an endless loop…
You know that - in the past - people like you even SPARED other people? And actually EXPLAINED them what they did wrong? Yes, they TALKED to them? Long gone sanity your kind has lost for a while now, hm?
Why are you angry/upset about miners not wanting to PvP? is it a problem to not want to PvP when you’re mining? ^^
I’ve not met a miner who protests that they are forced to PvP yet, they just mine and accept that PvP can happen and are aggitated from mild to Reee when they get ganked… don’t seem the problem
Back in the day when we would get wardeced on a regular basis, i would always lose the ship first…then get a message from my killers. They would always try to share their knowledge to me about what i did wrong, what i did right…how to get better. But…they always popped me first, then talked to me.
I think i met more great folks during wardecs than i did doing anything else. I never improved in pvp…but i met a ton of good folks. I bet over half my friends list are people that i met during wardecs. Great times those were.
Uta should try making friends this way…he might just change his whole mindset on the whole pvp thing.
It is hypocritical. Miners are not mining for fluffy bunnies. They are mining for the very materials that make PvP possible. They are part of the cycle of destruction…and are as up to their necks in it as anyone else. To the extent that to mine is to PvP as the miner is like someone running a munitions factory for war…yet pretending they just want to chill out and not be a legitimate war target.
If people hate PvP so much…then they should stop mining the very materials that make PvP ships. You can’t have it both ways.
