As we all know in modern politics money is everything. To run promotions and propaganda. Truly the election should be decided by whoever can afford to buy the Sydney Sweeney of eve online. I feel like a much more realistic election would be through donations to said political party. This would then make it mirror real life a lot more and also be a massive isk sink. Because let’s not forget about the trillions of npc’s that exist in the eve online universe who would also technically get a vote. So yes we need a more realistic change to the eve online election system.
our votes are being bought, with plex and skill points
Only if you’re an American. I don’t intend to turn this into a real-life political thread, and it will get deleted fast if that happened, but European elections aren’t decided by money. Gallente are closer to EU than they are to US, if I must find a parallel. So, no huge clashes with real-life-likeness in this fictional futuristic game world.
gallente tortured and experimented on caldari prisoners of war. a lot. they’re more like that one group of people that caused that one thing that was supposed to end all of that one thing
I’m not from America tbh. I’m just saying that there are trillions of npc’s in every that would also get to vote not just the pilots so it would make more sense to use a donation system for propaganda or else the maybe 30k votes that are actually gona be casted on this election by players realistically wouldn’t matter in comparison to the eve universe.
It’s statistics. A large enough player population voting will mirror the Gallente citizenry as a whole. Bringing money into this in the form of who pays most will have their candidate win is a terrible idea. As a Gallente I abhor such practices!
The only thing that is unrealistic to me, is that Amarr, Caldari, and Minmatar characters also get to vote in this election. That’s like EU being able to vote in the American elections. Or the other way around.
In fact, come summer time I better see an election to turn the Amarr Empire into a democracy. If they can vote on my President, I can vote on their form of government.
The Federation is a galactic disgrace.
I am guessing Gallente “Patriots” would hunt down and destroy the non-gallente vote runners.
Too bad it cannot be a Gallente only event.
so it would only be righteous duty to mine all their rocks and clutter their space with wrecks!
This. It makes zero sense to have all empire capsuleers voting for a Gallente President.
capsuleers are not tied to any empire. We are unaffiliated, even though our characters were born into one of the empires. Thats why we can do whatever we want and arent forced into our “racial” empire wars.
So really, we shouldnt be voting at all, and we’re really not. We’re being asked to be the propaganda machines and work horses to support whatever politician you choose.
We aren’t voting, we’re doing campaign work for our chosen candidate. That’s something you can do without citizenship or the ability to vote, IRL these are referred to as “foreign agents” and “NGOs”.
As a fellow Gallente I agree with you. The whole buy an election idea is an monstrously bad idea. What are we? Caldari? No? Then the elections should be open to those who are citizens of the Federation.
I would no more vote for a Minmatar Tribal Leadership. Than I would for the next leader of the CEP. Does the Caldari State even have general elections? Wouldn’t know and to be truthful do not really care.
Outside of the game I can understand why CCP is doing it. A little more revenue is generated and all players get a chance to influence the game. And yeah some players often take an ambivalent attitude as to what their 'toon origin is in game.
A player having, say, a Civire avatar might find themselves fighting in the Minmatar FW more than fighting in the Caldari side of the FW. Might not see Caldari space for months or years. Again I understand the reasons for opening the election to all players. That to single out one group of players is not fair. Regardless of intentions or reasons. But my head canon is just, no.
That is democracy.. It is always on the verge of crashing into the rocks. It is always a messy and sometimes, well a lot of times, overly confusing contradictions. But that is what makes democracy exciting. Each election brings with it an unknown outcome. That the best anyone can predict is only the probable, but not the certainty of what happens after an election.
It is the wildest ride of all time. When it is not just about to derail. It is pulling victory where none should exist. The sheer chaos and the historical steps to a better democracy happens each day and in every election.
Democracy has it all. The drama, comedy, defeat, a dark horse winning against all odds, sex, scandals. No movie or theater play could fashion a better stage. For a people that are willing to try and make a better future for everyone.
Even as that can fail as often as it succeeds. Sometime blood gets spilled. Sometimes just ink. But the idea of living under a corporate dictatorship or an amarrian theocratic state of worshiping a leader is as alien to me. As it would be to any Amarrian living in a democracy where all voice can be heard.
The Federation is no democracy. It is a corrupt oligarchy, masquerading as democracy. This is precisely why the Caldari State was formed, because the Gallente are nothing more then decadent hedonists.
but you’re not. You’re a private android that happened to be copied from an extremely wealthy and much much smarter than just about any other gallentian in your academy at the time. (not saying much because gallente
)
As a capsuleer, you don’t belong to any empire. You are a free agent, with no official ties. Why, you might ask? Because the real you died to make the android you currently are. You’re not a citizen anywhere, because you’re an android. You’re not even a cyborg, because the real you died during the copy paste procedure.
In new eden, robots don’t have citizenship rights or responsibilities. The evidence of this is the fact that a gallentian like yourself, can join the amarr faction warfare one week, muff off to something else, then join say, Minmatar, because they are the master race.
empires dont take too kindly to sentient robots, thats why most of the agents are a holes when you first start dealing with them.
Gallenteans don´t want me in their space and I will be shot on sight on all my relevant chars. So I disagree with the premise of this being unrealistic. Might be a bit too real for my taste.
Maybe they should. Then we wouldn’t have the idiots we have now. I best stop there or they will censor me. Just enjoy the fake election, hope for the best.
Have fun!
Don’t be too sure about that, Princess.
On this side of the Atlantic, we’re doing everything we can to try to be just like you and to humour your idiots.
Anyway, the fact that it doesn’t matter at all which faction your char belong to is, imo, the game’s worst feature.
Am I really a free agent after all? Am I just an android dreaming of electronic sheep at the end? Am an Ahole.. Well probably, as I have been described as a filthy arms merchant by someone on these forums. And as AIR and/or Upwell could destroy my ability to jump into a clone. Just what kind of master race that is so dependent on tech. Tech that is barely understood. Master race or sophisticated masterfully built androids that dream of electronic sheep with guns. HMM
But as I am Gallente and debatable on being a gentleman in a universe that is anything but. In my head am still Gallente. Even if others differ in opinion of that.
