I half-thought about that. The idea was that if it was mine I could at least bookmark the spot and warp to it. And get easy access to the nearby ships. You can’t (although dropping one of the many corpses nearby works very well). But, it never occurred to me that might change “scoopability”?
I did think about that. Problem is that 24 hours later, the number of shuttles at my “trial site” was just not that high … don’t know if they fade away eg after DT and/ or if the volume is just not there.
Nice idea. Will run some numbers. Certainly the main value would be from being johnny-on-the-spot for salvage eg when people wreck their own T1 frigates leaving about 500k in mods - or just abandon fancy options like apotheosis etc. Both happened during my trial.
✓ Event with short timer
✓ Meaningless activity that involves hitting that jump/warp button repeatedly
✓ Have to look up the destination system name manually each time you start a course
✓ Crappy agency window doesn’t even tell how much time is left per course
✓ Destinations don’t even show up on overview unless you are on grid just to waste your time even more
✓ “0/1 Go to the Federation Grand Prix” in the Luminaire system
This mindless event would’ve been more interesting if there were proper continued chain of goals to go through instead of making a trip back to the starting point every course. Even then the core idea of this event is just plain boring. I can’t help but think the real purpose of holding this event is to filter out botters that try to take advantage of the event’s mindless nature to make some quick profit.
I’d rather have one of those pirates-at-the-beacon events with some new modules or new ships bpc as reward tbh.
Agreed, the chain should’ve continued with increasing (or random) point rewards and only punished people back to Luminaire if they ran out of time at some point.
The smartbombing makes things briefly interesting in 97X or Gateway as do the campers on a lot of the endpoints but it has meant that the only people who hung around the admire the significant landmarks/waypoints in the spirit of the event generally had their space pixels scattered.
As events go its not bad. The one thing that would make it better is if you get a destination that you know is camped with smart bombers (Dead End anyone?) you should be able to cancel and get a new destination.
I agree. Good suggestion. I would definitely like a choice to “decline” an objective or just choose a tier by sitting at a, red (hard), yellow (medium) or green (easy) beacon.
Some people are sitting out their race timers at the start line and “re-rolling” for their ideal destination. So some control on the next iteration may help.
Or perhaps these guys are reporting back where to install new gate camps!!!
Neither the less CCP big giant kudos. Teaching people to play EVE via the back door. (you know what I mean). I have really enjoyed this rethinking of “what is your Gila fit” for xyz, how big is your corp.
It has made EVE even more interesting, random, and rewarding. Thank you.
PS please sort out War Decking. You know it leads to just one big blue donut.
After i passed 50 points in the current Grand Prix event, the only destination i’m getting is Kyonoke Research Site in the Postouvin system, which has 3 jumps through lowsec, and 7 jumps through null. Needless to say that i got smartbombed and stuck in bubbles and blown up all the time. So, my question: is this working as intended? I mean, after you pass the 50 points mark, you only get Postouvin as destination?
The destination selection is random. I am at 70 points and have not received Postouvin since 40 points. You can take the longer route through Genesis and Aridia into Solitude. If there are people in system, do not warp to gates directly. Warp to moons on the gate planet, or at range to the gate if it is a constellation or region gate. Create gate spots far away from the gate while you land on grid on constellation and region gates so that you can avoid smartbombs next time.
In other words: Working as intended. But the intention seems to be to create as much frustration and annoyance as possible.
Yeah, when I first read about this event coming, I figured B-R5RB and Eve Gate would be definite destos. People have been talking about Dead End, tho, so that’s pretty close to the gate itself… maybe some will turn that trip into a two-fer.
Wow, now that’s just sad. Obviously this event wasn’t set up for casual players. Probably take forever to catch up let alone complete it.
Now that’s thinking outside of the box. Still gotta plan route and warp from gate to celestial to gate when in null. That’s why I was asking about Cloaky T3 Cruiser with Nullifier sub. However I guess it wouldn’t make it due to the time constraint for each phase of the event.
