Ah, thanks, this made it clear.
This spreadsheet is a heartbreaker.
or fuel to put the pedal to the…warp speed modules or something
Such a disappointing event, why allow jump clones, med clones, and cynos in a race? “Teleportation” isn’t a race. No one tunes in to watch Dale Deadheardt teleport to the finish line!
Oh and well done on the roll out, I’ve been at this for a day now and still can only get the northern route to spawn. Yes, I have tried the time out tricks. Way to go CCP, great use of RNG… /slow clap
Neither is just spamming the jump button repeatedly and having the best bling implants and least latency much a race. This is about route planning and smoothing out the jump transitions as much as it is about running fast. I personally like it.
Though maybe in future events I would allow clonejumps, but not cynos - out of simply the desire to limit pay-to-win somewhat?
This would be easy to fix, just put more waypoints in between the landmark sites, to reduce the time saving and feasibility of (forward) shortcuts like with cynos. But it would make the race kind of “un-eve” and a lot less interesting for some.
Plus adding a category not only for worst way of doing it, but also doing it in one stint without any ship, clone changes, and shortcuts.
Cynos… I hadn’t even thought about it… Anyway, this races will always be “pay-to-win”. Just like in the real life. Even without cynos. If you can afford 4-5 bil set of implants, you’ll be in the top. Two sets for two clones even better.
This is all Leopard results, am I right?
It’ll always be somewhat pay to win, but there’s still a difference between 200M Leopard and say, a titan.
You are just salty because you couldn’t figure out how to make the kessel run in less than twelve parsecs.
If you ever do an event like this again, can I suggest that the extra laps be given out in a pattern, instead of at random? I’ve literally just been given Northern/Eastern Extra Laps for the last hour and a half, when all I want to do is attempt a southern.
i have the same problem btw CCP convict thank you or posting the top 100 it really helped me ty
Leaderboards updated. Encouragingly, @xa666’s reported time from yesterday appeared exactly where it should have which gives me confidence that everything is now working correctly.
@Rhudak That’s definitely a good idea! This contest was something we came up with just before the feature was deployed to add a bit of extra fun for the community to get involved in but by then the mechanics were already baked in. This seems to have been fairly popular though so perhaps for the next GP we’ll get involved a bit earlier.
We have to be mindful of trade offs and what makes the race interesting, which it really has been.
1-5 jumps per beacon races favour fast movement (bling and latency) with very few options for planning advantages. The eastern route is somewhat like this with the jc/dc skip being obvious at the very start and end and only 1 bridging opportunity with the lap being a lowsec sandwich (with highsec bread).
5-15 favour planning jc/dc (and even 12 month remote dc resets) along with group planning (blops/titan bridges). This is northern to a tee. The jc/dc skip can negate null or push you into deep low with the potential for 2 or 3 bridges. This rewards planning and making use of 4 to 5 characters (or people)
If we had a race with 4 or 5 20+ jumps per beacon we’d have the ability to push into wormholes and giga try hard along with all the above (this may have already been done but would be necessary to win a longer jump/beacon race along with the earlier strats).
To me that would be insane if there was(is?) a 10 man gang rage scanning (or god forbid rage rolling) to find 10 minutes on a route for that 1 best time. That said in a long beacon format 10 people could just fill all 10 spots with a perfect wormhole connection that they immediately break and just win which isn’t so healthy, but hey do you want to reward planning on dotlan or people minmaxing in eve to find the perfect lap?
I think having one each of those various types of laps, and then a separate reward for each and one for the over-all points would make a whole lot of sense going forward. I’d also like to see one pretty trivial pure-hisec lap as the first one the event takes you to, so that absolutely everyone from day one and zero understanding could do some tour of landmarks.
My south run is accurate to my expectations indeed.
My South runs keep on going, well, south. I blame the Amarr God not wanting the Minmatar spirits of Luck in His space. Pretty much nothing else explains.
This can be corrected by 3 separate start beacon so capsuleers can just choose the route that want to engage with
Good suggestion!
Yeah I’m pulled on it two. maybe in the future they need two brackets. An anything goes, cannonball style race, and a more traditional style race that’s about hitting every system on a fixed route. Both are fun for their own reasons but, the two shouldn’t compete with each other.
