I originally created this thread on Reddit, but I’m getting tired of people telling me to pay the subscription with real money, and getting downvoted for having that goal, so I’ll try asking here…
Well, through a combination of Faction War, donations from others, and recovering my 8-year-old account, along with their assets, I can afford to Omega my character for a month.
I also have Nidhoggur that’s awaiting sale, so if that happens, I’ll have the ISK for 2 months of Omega.
I don’t intend to continue playing those characters, and prefer to re-learn the game with a clean slate once I’ve offloaded their assets to my now-main account, which brings me to the question of this post…
How should I use this month of Omega to set up my account to continue PLEXing with ISK?
Here’s how my accounts are currently set up:
-
Main account
-
Main toon, in corp, and competing in FW
-
Potential PI toon, not skilled into anything
-
Potential PI toon, not skilled into anything
-
Alpha account 1
-
Industry/Jita alt
-
Toon training into Worms for T1 Abyssals

-
Alpha account 2

My characters aren’t that old, so I don’t know what I don’t know, and I want to see what the community suggests.
I’m aware that Alphas can’t train PI or multibox, I just have them there in case I were to try and Omega multiple accounts.
I like to keep F2P games as F2P. It’s a self-imposed challenge, sure, but that’s the question I’m asking, for those who have done the same.
I am not going to discourage your goals, I think they are a good challenge BUT beware of making the game feel too much like a job with low pay.
That said, if you have gathered some skill in FW the upcoming year should be good for you with the renewed focus promised byt ccp dev letter. Keep track of the changes and try to ride the wave, so to speak.

Do you have any thoughts on setting up PI, doing Abyssals, Homefronts, Incursions, etc?
All I really know so far are the base things the game teaches you in the tutorial and AIR, and Faction Warfare.
PI is semi passive but not a huge breadwinner. Homefronts need a team of 5 and SEEM to be taken over by bots/multiboxers who are very . . . efficient. (I am being diplomatic) Incursions are a nice steady income but again need a group to be with, I have flown them and enjoyed being logi. Abyssals can be a solo thing and you can kind of ‘choose the isk risk ratio’
The richest people I know of are traders. You may want to look into that.

If I ever wanted to play EVE without paying for it, I’d probably skill farm a character on each of my Omega accounts.
That means, give them a good skill queue for one set of attributes, do a remap to max those attributes, get +5 implants for those two attributes, buy extractors in bulk sales for PLEX and Omega in bulk during sales to minimize the cost.
And it would mean those accounts no longer progress.
In other words, a good option now that I have a lot of useful characters on those accounts, but a bad idea when you’re new.
While it probably isn’t profitable it could reduce the cost of the accounts such that I can more easily cover the rest of the cost with something like PI and spend the rest of my EVE time playing the game instead of grinding for the privilege of grinding again next month, because if there’s anything that feels pointless it is to grind a free game I could easily be paying a subscription for to unlock the normal gameplay without having to spend my valuable free time earning nothing.
Alternatively I’d play as Alpha and push the limits of what I can do with a free account while spending all the ISK I earn on fun things like new ships instead of the bottomless pit that is an Omega subscription.
Pay the subscription with real money.
Doing anything else makes this a second job, not a game, and you will hate it before long.
