First person camera is mostly used for quick cinematics or screenshots, not actual gameplay.
I think it would be a lot more useful if tracking camera still worked while in first person. Being able to track selected ships, primaries, or celestials would make first person feel more practical, especially for watching targets and using d-scan.
It probably would not become the main way people play, but it could make first person more than just a novelty and possibly attract a few more F1 jockeys that would like a more cockpit style view while being able to look at something other than the lineman right in front of them.

Well, I think the FPS camera and accompanying keyboard commands are kind of a gimmick. Most battles that I’ve seen are from a tactical view and not a first person view. Why limit yourself to a tiny angle of space when you can zoom out to a 360 degree view if everything?
That’s kind of my point though.
Most players are still going to play zoomed out, especially FCs or anyone in a more tactically intense role. I’m not arguing that first person should replace the tactical view.
The feature already exists, and you can still fly your ship using the normal commands like approach, orbit, keep at range, and the overview. Not everyone wants to play the exact same way, and some players enjoy immersion even if it is not the most optimal view.
With a relatively small improvement, like allowing tracking camera to work in first person, I think the feature could provide a lot more value without taking anything away from how people currently play.
Mmmmmmm. I dont know man. The cockpit view is already pretty awful as is.
