Fitting Generator for NewBros

Hello everyone!

I would like to create a tool that suggests fittings, based on some parameters like
shiptype, long- or shortrange, EHP needed etc.

I am well aware that there is pyfa. But i think, for newbros it might be a bit too difficult to use.
As they do not have an idea what they are looking for.

My question is, how do i get access to ingame data?

I use cut and paste.

Hello there Princess Aiko!

What i was looking for is the eve online developers site
Already found it.

Isn’t that what basically EVE Workbench / fits is?

Don’t ya know everyone has to create their own (specialty here) app cause they dont wanna use one of the 500 others available

For quite a number of ships, suggested fittings already exist in the fittings library.

Don’t do that AI ■■■■.

There is static data: Static Data Export - EVE Developer Documentation

And there is ESI not really sure where a good place to start with that pile of s… would be, but here is one spot to try: Welcome - EVE Developer Documentation

I like the in-game fitting window, and in conjunction with the Compare Tool and Info window, it’s all I need to fit any ship I like and it’s a good thing cause I don’t like going off-game if I don’t have to.

The issue with your suggestion is IF you made something that suggested fits it wont work unless you specifically have in mind what you need. Newbros be fitting ships for pve or mixing shield and armor when they wanna do fw.

Newbros should follow advice from vets or as someone stated above learn how to fit by using the community fittings.

first i have to say, that i am mainly doing this as a project to learn about software development and not to create the best fitting tool ever.

i am planning on using a database of fittings to train the AI so it has an idea of “good” and “bad” fits.

in the end i want to have some input fields for the user and then an output of fittings, based on those inputs.

the problem with eve workbench i see, is that everyone can just upload fittings there. a lot of them are shitfits that have never been tested or they are blinged out.
what i want, is that users can tell the program which ship they wanna fly, if it should be a brawler or a kiter, what their budget is, if it is for PvE or PvP etc.

again, this is a project for me, to learn about programming. i would be thankful, if some people would give their ideas here.
i am fine with oppinions on it but i do not really care tbh.

Start with that part. After you fail you will understand previous statement.

EDIT Maybe fail is a strong word, it is possible, but you won’t like the result.

Community fits exist for this purpose, easily accessible for new players within the game’s own fitting simulator.

For any more advanced fitting tools I’d recommend Pyfa.

our own “AI” on the discord for EVE won’t even give suggested fits. Why? because its more nuanced than you think.

its great you want to get into software development, but leave AI out of it when considering ship fitting for new players.

The basic community fits are useful for noobs….but I’d argue that simply giving people more complex fits robs them of the process of actually understanding what the fits are for and why they are the way they are. No amount of easily gained fittings can do that.

Which also applies to understanding how to fly them. Which these people are usually also clueless about. The end result often is priceless poetic justice.
