Five Days of Free Omega

I never turn down a free gift. I put this on my account after I set one of my +5 million SP alphas to train for more than 10 days. However I seriously believe they should just stop handing out free omega so often, perhaps not at all. I hear those boos and hisses already, but to misquote Shakespeare, Read on Macduff!

Five days is suppose to show omega off to the new players, so they will buy it monthly. The common alpha player has little clue, other than to buy a locked ship, they are not even skilled to fly. If CCP can afford to offer 5 days ever few months, why not consolidate these freebies in one full month of omega annually. Then give the omega players an additional month added to their subscription.

Currently this 5 day of omega free has no value to the new alphas or the omega veterans. I can tell you who it does hold value with, those who buy skill extractors to drain alpha armies. You should be ashamed of yourself. Not that one month free would stop that lot.

CCP will never sell some of us on omega subscriptions. In my opinion, if they want sales, they need to either remove the free omega offers, or make them count for all the players. i don’t know if they add 5 days to an omega account or not, but when you are paid up for a full year 5 days can’t look like more than a basic drop. Oh! Look here, I got scrap metal!

They do

5 free days - I’ll take it.

You are right, you don’t need those 5 days, Just give them to me so you don’t have to worry about them.

You’re right, they should not give out free omega often. But this is for the anniversary of the game, it’s the best time to give it out imo. Birthdays and the Holidays are the times for gifts, seems fitting for me.

Just take the 5, say thank you and move on. They didn’t have to give us anything.
Idk.

A month of free, unlimited number of Omega accounts used as gank fleets. Because that is exactly what would happen…

You obviously didn’t read or misread the above statement;
“If CCP can afford to offer 5 days ever few months, why not consolidate these freebies in one full month of omega annually. Then give the omega players an additional month added to their subscription.”

So how does this translate in any language into give everyone free omega? Because obviously, I could care less about the free candy bar. It seems to me, they recently handed out free omega a few months ago? If you keep giving away samples of what you are attempting to sell, it is little wonder why you don’t get that many new customers. There is a saying I once heard, “Something given freely has no value.”. That is something to ponder.

All too true. In fact, I have seen how big giveaways can backfire. One year an online game gave out a lot of cool stuff, the next year not as much. The forums for that game lit up with spite for getting anything at all. I never look a gift horse in the mouth, but I might inform them when the gift is too frequent.

I haven’t been tracking it, but I’m pretty sure the last one was in November, just prior to the Yuletide stuff. And then one on the anniversary event. Which is pretty much the pattern for the previous 2 years iirc.

I don’t think a couple brief tastes of Omega twice a year constitutes some serious “giveaway of what they’re attempting to sell”. As far as I can tell it’s fairly similar to what many F2P games do, both to entice regular F2Ps and to bring previous ‘paid’ accounts back for a reminder of what they enjoyed about EVE.

I expect that reminding players who’ve lapsed a sub what they’re missing is even more important than enticing new players. Your most likely customers are people who’ve bought from you before, after all. As for what it does for CCP’s income, I can virtually guarantee that adding 5 days to paying players Omega time won’t impact their income, but if they gave away a full month it just means a ton of people would buy one less month Omega per year.

Personally, I’m going to use it to run the SOE Arc 15 times and share all the faction standings with my main mission runner…

fyi, only the last mission shares the standings

I know, but you also get the standings from all the other corps in the mission chain. SOE, O.R.E, and several others…
