I never turn down a free gift. I put this on my account after I set one of my +5 million SP alphas to train for more than 10 days. However I seriously believe they should just stop handing out free omega so often, perhaps not at all. I hear those boos and hisses already, but to misquote Shakespeare, Read on Macduff!
Five days is suppose to show omega off to the new players, so they will buy it monthly. The common alpha player has little clue, other than to buy a locked ship, they are not even skilled to fly. If CCP can afford to offer 5 days ever few months, why not consolidate these freebies in one full month of omega annually. Then give the omega players an additional month added to their subscription.
Currently this 5 day of omega free has no value to the new alphas or the omega veterans. I can tell you who it does hold value with, those who buy skill extractors to drain alpha armies. You should be ashamed of yourself. Not that one month free would stop that lot.
CCP will never sell some of us on omega subscriptions. In my opinion, if they want sales, they need to either remove the free omega offers, or make them count for all the players. i donât know if they add 5 days to an omega account or not, but when you are paid up for a full year 5 days canât look like more than a basic drop. Oh! Look here, I got scrap metal!
Youâre right, they should not give out free omega often. But this is for the anniversary of the game, itâs the best time to give it out imo. Birthdays and the Holidays are the times for gifts, seems fitting for me.
You obviously didnât read or misread the above statement;
âIf CCP can afford to offer 5 days ever few months, why not consolidate these freebies in one full month of omega annually. Then give the omega players an additional month added to their subscription.â
So how does this translate in any language into give everyone free omega? Because obviously, I could care less about the free candy bar. It seems to me, they recently handed out free omega a few months ago? If you keep giving away samples of what you are attempting to sell, it is little wonder why you donât get that many new customers. There is a saying I once heard, âSomething given freely has no value.â. That is something to ponder.
All too true. In fact, I have seen how big giveaways can backfire. One year an online game gave out a lot of cool stuff, the next year not as much. The forums for that game lit up with spite for getting anything at all. I never look a gift horse in the mouth, but I might inform them when the gift is too frequent.
I havenât been tracking it, but Iâm pretty sure the last one was in November, just prior to the Yuletide stuff. And then one on the anniversary event. Which is pretty much the pattern for the previous 2 years iirc.
I donât think a couple brief tastes of Omega twice a year constitutes some serious âgiveaway of what theyâre attempting to sellâ. As far as I can tell itâs fairly similar to what many F2P games do, both to entice regular F2Ps and to bring previous âpaidâ accounts back for a reminder of what they enjoyed about EVE.
I expect that reminding players whoâve lapsed a sub what theyâre missing is even more important than enticing new players. Your most likely customers are people whoâve bought from you before, after all. As for what it does for CCPâs income, I can virtually guarantee that adding 5 days to paying players Omega time wonât impact their income, but if they gave away a full month it just means a ton of people would buy one less month Omega per year.
