So, while I certainly don’t think CCP or Rattati has done much that’s positive for EVE in the past few years (but there are a few!), I did some searching a while back and ran into a few things.
I was looking for actual sources for some of the things CCP Rattati is purported to have said, which seemed unusually negative towards the playerbase. The only one I found was a screenshot of him saying “Solo moon-mining is not a god given right”.
At any rate, what I did find was several references to people who thought Rattati and his team got a lot of work done in a short-ish time on Dust 514, at a time when that game was seriously dragging it’s feet.
And overall, it could be said that while he’s been active in EVE, a fair bit of stuff has gotten done. It may not be stuff that’s done the game much good, but actually significant large-scale changes got done. And without crashing everyone’s systems.
Maybe it’s time to be thinking less about reviling Rattati for getting those things done, and start thinking about ways to get him to drive changes that are actually good for the game.
I’m sure he also said “they’ll be back” when asked about the players who left because of all his nerfing. I watched that stream.
I also saw a stream where a CCP employee spawned a ship in space out of nowhere but I’m willing to concede and say it was a dream.
His job is not a god-given right either and a server full of players isn’t as well.
As far as I’m concerned it’s their game. They can do whatever they want or not do anything they want. I gain nothing wether EVE shuts down tomorrow or in a hundred years.
They were on various livestreams like the CCP Twitch stream where he said his plan was “all sticks, and no carrots” for the players. In other words he openly stated his plans to punish us for two years and that we should “shut up and take our medicine” because we had it too good for too long.
He was definitely confident all the players he was going to make quit were all going to come running back once they saw how good he made the game again.
Right. And he was never behind all the nerfs and never said "all sticks, and no carrots”. In fact, he wasn’t at the office that day and if Hillmar had really let him do what he wanted EVE would be fine with 50k players every day.
Poor Rattati. Only a misunderstood man.
Yea so also EVE is not exactly TIKTOK generation friendly. When your target audience has their attention reduced to the entertainment of 30 seconds or less. a long burn game like eve with sp and real loss wont do well
If only all the ‘Eve is doomed’ people would just leave and stop poisoning the well. Doubtless CCP have made some mistakes, but it is very evident that the real issue is all the whiners with their endless ’ Woe, woe, thrice woe ! ’ like some Delphic Oracle stuck in a groove on the record. Their endless message of ‘I’m not happy…so you shouldn’t be either’ is what is killing the game…not anything that CCP did.
Damn kids and their damn MTV and sanitary living conditions. I blame their parents for putting em outside and not glued to the tv like some kinda boomer.
I do agree on that. Only we, as players, have very little weight to pressure for changes that would benefit all players. The CSM is our voice to CCP and even they seldomly can get something changed or fixed.
I like what I quoted of you and “The Man Who Killed EVE” is very harsh of me, I do feel bad for it, but when someone is so out of touch with players sentiment as to say “they’ll be back”, maybe that person’s best place isn’t in a prominent position within a development team.
