They turned EVE into a theme park. It is no longer player vs player, but player vs CCP npc. It has become market orientated, towards bundles and buying skill points and skins. T1 ships are mostly crap, the rest are unbalanced. There is a saturation of everything in this game and a lot of useless content. EvE is no longer an immersive game. They should had continued Walking in Stations. It looked nice. I remembered when they promised planet surface explorations, formations, and much more. In the end…we got more EvE boring lore and shiny bundles to buy. Problem is that because of the amount of snowflakes crying that they got ganked in hi sec/low sec, the game will become even more ā€˜ā€˜player friendly’’.

I never said that it is unfair, I only said what it is.

The narrative I allege is being pushed relies on willful ignorance on behalf of the players who are spurred on to go to certain areas of space for ā€œreal PvP,ā€ which isn’t the same thing as what e.g. gank victims go through, which is more akin to getting a lesson on how not to act after their unfortunate encounter.

This is fundamentally untrue, as I’ve observed over nearly 20 years in this game, and having been a member of at least a dozen major null-sec alliances throughout the years. Many of the upper echelons of alliance leadership are players who have been high-ranking members of external gaming communities. A lot of them are sitting on ā€œold moneyā€ so to say, and most players don’t know just how deep that rabbit hole goes.

Additionally, the kind of personality required to successfully maintain a leadership position in a major EVE organization doesn’t correlate with being the kind of person who gets ā€œused and abusedā€ by others, even when new.

Anyway, you seem to have amalgamated two separate issues in your reply to me. What I was talking about specifically is the way that null-sec operates as a sort of pyramid scheme, and the narratives that null-sec dwellers will push are going to be self-serving in terms of the direction of meaningful content. You on the other hand are talking about a ā€œrite of passageā€ for new players. But the players in question don’t at all care whether their content is new players or veterans; they consume everyone equally, and the relationship they desire is very one-sided.

CCP continues down the dark path of skewing the best benefits of the game towards the players who need it least. I.E. mega alliances. Large powerful alliances already benefit massively simply because of their numbers and wealth. This is magnified more by providing only these players with certain benefits that no one else can have. While some benefits should exist it is skewed so highly that it stifles play for far more people than I think CCP understands.

Eve would benefit greatly from a new direction, focused on making certain game features more viable for corporations or even individuals.

Suggestions include:

  • Restrictions on number of pilots that can take a jump bridge in a given time span and greatly increased cost in resources for each jump. Bridges should be a convenience, and not an automatic ā€œI winā€ button.
  • Ability to build and dock a super-cap without having to rely on a privately owned structure or Sov.
  • Massively increased Sov maintenance costs that increase geometrically with each controlled system.
  • Removal of the ā€˜automatic/completely free’ display of everyone in local.
  • Greatly diminished availability of clone soldier security tags.

No, my point was that as with everything in Eve, it is a two way thing. A person can choose to be the hunter or the hunted. A person can choose to be the user or the used. Or anywhere in a spectrum between the two. People don’t join Eve and then immediately get told ’ right…you are a miner till the end of time ’ . There are no pre-assigned roles. Thus a person being ā€˜used’ can just as well use the situation for some using of their own. If people want to be lowly used pleb cannon fodder for 20 years that is entirely up to them…but a sensible person seizes the opportunities for advancement.

I have a few questions for you, if you don’t mind.

Can you explain exactly what you see that can be called a pyramid scheme in null-sec ?
Can you think of a different sort of meaningful content for null-sec dwellers, in the pvp sandbox ?
Can you show any groups active on any Eve related forum that deliver a narrative, or come with suggestions or demands for change, that are not self-serving to a degree ?

That, by itself, is a narrative. It’s one that underestimates the new players’ ability to think for themselves, or worse, to be willfully ignorant. It’s also a narrative that takes away responsibility of players’ actions and decisions. It is in sharp contrast with Eve’s sandbox where you are deemed responsible from your first undocking onwards. It is the responsibility of players who join this game to accept what is written on the box: this is a pvp game. And it comes with degrees of pvp exposure, less in hisec, more everywhere else, but nowhere without some pvp. Don’t accept that, don’t play Eve.

Second, players seeking to join nullsec groups (or any other non-hisec group bar specialized hisec pvp groups) may do so because they are interested in pvp, from solo to highly organized, large fleet battles.

Third, I see nothing wrong with populating regions of New Eden with veteran and new players alike, with full exposure to the full spectrum of every imaginable form of pvp. For those who still aren’t aware that this game is full on-pvp, it is!. Anyone can and will lose ships and pods, veterans and newbies alike - and you will have contributed to the player driven economy at the very least.

Four, I also see nothing wrong with shooting new players in nullsec, for that matter. After one’s first loss, one can’t continue to claim ignorance, but should adjust and adapt. If too painful, play differently, or not at all. There’s nothing to be gained from simply flying spaceships and doing nothing.

Five, there’s nothing to be gained from scraping isk without providing content for others ! That is true both on the individual and the group level. And providing content is exactly what large alliances do for their membership. That’s what that ISK in large alliances goes into, from organizing infrastructure all the way up to providing SRP and creating war bonds in extreme conflict. And many people seem to like that play style, living in an organized environment, and getting ready for the next big confrontation by getting into the requested ships they must acquire themselves. Or did you assume that battles and campaigns were fought with handout ships ? On the contrary, rewards in null come at a price: contribute to the defense of the sov space, and support the nullsec life style of earning wealth and gaining advancement and experience by actively defending it and supporting the continuation of the community they chose to be a part of. That too is responsibility. In the end, that is a necessary part of what keeps groups together, together with a responsible leadership.

And from that follows that excesses like renter space are anything but ā€œresponsibleā€. Renters pay an entrance fee to a venue without any program. Renters are the true victims in that story: often they don’t get the support from their landlords, and they don’t learn to do anything other than scraping isk without providing content in most cases. Landlords use that renter ISK for their own purposes, getting ready for the next big confrontation… Which was the underlying message in my original post that triggered your anti-nullsec alliance narrative. The overt message was that we, players, should support groups that want to settle in freedom, develop and become new communities.

P.S. ā€œReal PvPā€. There is no such thing. There simply are too many formats of ā€œpvpā€, and all of them are ā€œrealā€, from duels to fleet encounters. What is not ā€œrealā€ is the comparison between a ring fighter and a general, or a solo pilot and an FC, or a hisec ganker and a fleet member …

Most of the origanl CCP and Eve Online crew has left in some way or another (Passing on/Quiting/Est) So IMO there is no more TRUE LOVE or Passion being put into the game anymore

The game has become Politically Correct, Narcs are in an abundance, in a nurfed game beyond recognition. The game once had possibilities now it has road blocks, political correct cry babies and as usual those who can not handle rejection, told to shut up and fall in line etc. Back in the day it was the wild wild west, now its become a sewer of you hurt my feelings. Until the prices come down my accounts will not reactivate. Until resources are made available to where I can build things with out being part of a major organization (I have real life duties that require my time) I just do not have the time necessary to devote to those organizations. You (CCP) needs to put your big boy pants on and return the game to some time before 2016. Leave the Politics and the gender bs at the key board and post that if you join the game you enter at your own risk of having your candy ass feelings hurt. Beyond just being fed up with the constant bs, I will take an extended vacation where I can find Sun, grass, peace and harmony instead of Continuous Politically Correct Candy Land Drama. Love the game, with all its flaws just hate the woke pay to play direction the game has turned and will not waste valuable time and money on this mess.

No players get glassed in literally like 3 seconds sometimes by anyone with a 10 year-old account. The idea that established players should be catered to more is daft.

I did not mind getting glassed, jumped, ganked or pranked etc. What i got tired of was see the woke mess the game has become. It is a time and treasure analysis that basically told me that if the game continued on it current direction it would end up evolving from a level one parasitic arrangement to the sky’s the limit parasitic arrangement. I do not play pay to win games, its not worth the time or money. That money is invested else where, new fishing tackle, poles, fuel for the boats, things that go bang and the range fees that are required, and just basically not being a slave to the next layer of drama coming out of CCP. Have fun with the game guys, I wish you the best of luck. Just remember go woke go broke and you will know where this candy land game is now headed. Basically CCP has priced this game out of the market place during a major world wide inflationary period which will keep membership down to the real diehards of the game. Salute.

OK I understand your concern, although I’m not sure it’s you that will get wrecked by people with old accounts, it’s newbies. But this is a sandbox game where you’re allowed to run multiple accounts. Paywall is the most effective way to limit things like bots, which are becoming impossible to detect. How else to have a sandbox game that has no pay to win in it? If you know then I think that’d be interesting because I don’t see how else they’d run this, even if it is cringe sometimes.

Their feelings are important, the ability to flag posts being a necessary tool of censorship of the whinebaby to combat those nasty people that disagree with them.

This i fully agree with. I love my boom sticks and hand held hole punchers. :smiley:

Yes and no, CCP has made changes to make the game more appealing to the general masses, that by default means it no longer really appeals to the hardcore players

I may not be ā€œthe oldestā€ but i’m definitely one of the older bittervets still loitering around, a LOT has changed in the last 19 years, some for the better, some for the worse, some playstyles no longer exist while others were created

Wearing rose tinted nostalgia goggles i do miss some of the older days, but i also know some of that really did need to be changed, its not the same game that made me fall in love with it way back in 2004, the heart still beats in there somewhere, its just really really hard to see anymore

I’m still hanging around because the game had such a lasting impact on me

I’m not sure we can ever really return to the days of old, but i will still continue to check in on the old girl :slight_smile:
