For The old Guys Out there, I mean toons over 10 years old

Almost 19 years here. Had a lot of fun, still have a lot of fun.

I think CCP can make the game greater, though.

Getting back to a living thriving universe would be nice. I miss the days before multiboxing became so ubiquitous. I’d love to get rid of it altogether.

Outside of that, most what I want seems in the pipeline already.
FPS (someday)
more trig content (eventually)

reckon i must be one of the oldest toons about and i still get ganked lol does it stop me playing no its just means you have to be more careful now than you were back then losing my nightmare still hurts lol

Still flying 19years later? Now that is impressive Grandpa.

Short answer :

No.

Somewhat of a short answer:

It was a slow drip but Eve’s old playerbase foundation left the game a long time ago.

Many due to RL issues, ie: kids, jobs, other priorities etc… and others simply because the game turning stale and full of trash players simply pushing for the safe farm game, no matter how detrimental to Eve’s core and emergent gameplay.

One perfect example would be how they tried to fix Faction Warfare, and failed miserably …
It is now riddled with nullsec people simply farming LP with their one man multiboxed 10 ship gangs. The warzone is now completely stale, and hasnt moved one bit since the “fix”, with solo pvp pretty much now non-existent.

Now we also have abyssal pvp instances to remedy that …

The recent blockchain announcement also sure helped drive the population curve down a little as well … chuckles

This game’s glory days are clearly far gone.

Dont forget introducing instanced PVP …

Dont forget having to wait for the random nullsec FarmBillyBoi and his 10 alts army to leave system so you can finally plex and hopefully have decent pvp at the same time … only until the next FarmBillyFckBoi logs in and his 10 alts army … oh, and wait till one of them awoxes you as well … fun eh ?

Maybe karma because you call them “toons”.

I started in 2003. The game is wildly better today than it was then. There’s actual content, they’ve done a nice job of cracking down on sociopathic behavior around new players, we can actually build stations and there’s real sovereignty and so on. Some of y’all are wearing some serious rose-colored glasses thinking the old game was better, when we put mining lasers on battleships and had to equip a MWD and fly for hours in a random direction to create a safe-spot bookmark so we could log off in huge swaths of space with no stations at all… Truly you all are misremembering what was a game with very serious problems.

Nope, but whatever you filthy miners were smoking back then, must be good stuff.

Its not just about logon stats though, alts help make certain tasks actually doable, i’ve used mine for scouting, for hauling expensive ship fittings while i move the hull around, i’ve used it as a bridger for fleets i’ve used it as a cyno to move my own ships around, used it for mining while i haul etc

There are so many tasks that are greatly helped by having more “bodies” on the field and THAT is why multiboxing has always been a thing, it boosting player numbers is a bonus

Any of those tasks would be doable with friendship and trust.

Every time somebody makes an alt instead of a friend, they’re missing the point of an MMO.

I love to hear this.

Waking up in the middle of the night to change your skills? I’ll take my year(s) long queue

Yeah … and while traveling you always dropped out of warp 15km before the gate.

I still have tons of gate to gate bookmarks lying around.

Those 15km could feel like a whole pvp queue if you didn’t have instas

To be greeted by a couple of sniping tempests, those were the days.

Its not just about friendship and trust, its about timing aswell, you could have friends who will cyno for you but if they aren’t available when you need them then you need an alt

Sure its great to tout the “but its an MMO, bring a friend” but unless you have a supply of friends who are ready to help at the drop of a hat 100% of the time its not really a viable argument against having an alt or for why they exist, this game doesn’t have millions of players and because its a single global server timezones do exist unlike other MMO’s that are generally timed for specific regions

Its a good argument on paper but it falls apart the moment you actually look at it for more than 5 seconds

What I said still applies. If I can’t get ten or twenty people together at the same time in wow or any other mmo to handle content, the solution isn’t usually make more accounts. EVE is the only game mmo that allows you to completely bypass the need for other players, and I think it’s unhealthy. Just because the gameplay requires more than one person doesn’t mean you need to make an alt.

EVE also plays entirely different to other MMO’s, so saying that the solution to low player pop in WoW isn’t to make a second account doesn’t really apply

I must have missed the part where you can’t enter a map without someone holding the door open for you in WoW

They are two very different games with 2 different sets of mechanics and needs
