Yes for those 6-12 months I have bigger problems. Wouldn’t it be great if during say a recovery after a major accident I could go back to a game I played. Nope now I have to start over.

That’s incredibly naive and you’re straight-up ignoring what is essentially an enormous burden on a lot of players. Again, I am all about an abandoned state, love it. But 1 week is too short.

I referenced earlier how incredibly easy it is to keep upwell structures high power. There’s no limit on the amount of fuel you can put in there, and the cost is minuscule compared to what POSes used to cost. That 7 day timer doesn’t start until the structure is out of fuel, giving people plenty of time to plan ahead.

I’m really looking forward to the highsec freeport scam structures that exist just to bait people into putting their stuff inside and then yanking the fuel and unanchoring to steal all of the AFK players’ stuff.

Because alot of players in those areas use the refineries and engineering structures for benefits that exceed what is available at NPC stations. And now maintaining them is going to be a second job. Especially if anything unexpected happens IRL. And no it’s not a “you have bigger problems than a video game” - it’s a multi-year built-up hobby and is becoming very-easily destroyed.
CCP added in these citadels and structures to make it an option for players to “build their dreams” and now they are making them difficult to use the way players want them to.
for all those people saying “now I cant take a break without moving my ■■■■” well, that’s kinda youre fault for dropping a citadel solo, groups can have people afk and people still playing that will keep the lights on. if your too small to ensure somebody is online to fuel stuff, don’t drop stations, simple. corp level assets are there for corps, not solo players.
I wonder if there would be a coding problem with allowing players to board or hack an abandoned structure and take ownership?
I know someone mentioned the RMT abuse possibility, but there are likely ways to detect if that is happening. It wouldn’t have to be a reason to not introduce game features.

If you use a structure and keep fuel stocked (for months ahead) - there shouldnt be any problem. “Start over” may only happen if you are in a 1-man corp and keep all the eggs in one faulty basket (aka [ab]use low powered citadels) and i fail to see the problem.

In high sec there are many very small corps, even 1 men corps, that have a structure.
Some of them only online the structures when required (for example to refine the ore collected in the month). Saves them fuel (at a slightly higher risk of course of being war targetted)
But even if you are trying to keep them operational, its always possible that the guy/girl that needs to refuel it falls out due to a broken PC which need to be replaced (which can take a while) or a severely broken leg (which puts you in the hospital for 3 weeks) or … .
Can you really call something abandoned after 7 days, when there are not even massive spiderwebs in it?
7 days is for small operations a very short time. What’s the fun in a game that just gives you extra stress for no decent reason.
If the point is to clean up structures, you might as well have a decent grace period.
Call something abandoned after 3 months.!
And if you really want to diversify depending on the zone : Null : 7 days; Low + Worm : 1 month; High : 3 months
