Fps and gpu utilization problem

Before docking up, all 4 clients are running at or above 60FPS. The GPU and CPU would be at normal running usage at 5% to 10%.

This has been an issue for the last 2 months. Never before have I had this Problem..

After docking all 4 clients, doing some other things in station, fitting organizing things.

I would undock my 4 clients, 1 client would run fine at 60fps, the other 3 clients would go down to 5 to 11 FPS.

And some times I would undock my clients (4) of them 3 would would run at 60 FPS and 1 would run at 10 fps.

And some times all 4 would run at 11fps.

All while the GPU would be at 90% usage, CPU would be at normal usage of 5 to 10%

I have to shut down all my clients and restart them, undock them as soon as I can so they would run at normal..

This is getting really old fast, I mean I can live with it but is a problem

Before I never had an issue, always ran above 60FPS

I have checked every thing I could in the troubleshooting on Fenris Creations website and the Forums to no prevail.

I have a RTX-3080 and drivers are up to date, game runs on a SSD, have 256 gig ram, AMD Threadripper CPU.

Thanks for any advice that you can muster up

Go and get a Gaming Cpu…

been using this CPU for over 5 years …

and have had no issues, till the last 1 to 2 months…

the CPU is not the problem…

If you are using windows, then there are many settings hidden around in the system and the nvidia driver that cause this.

When games lose performance or drop frames in Windows as soon as they lose focus, it is usually caused by built-in resource management features or display optimizations introduced in recent Windows updates.

Common Solutions to Stop Background Throttling

  • Turn off Background Frame Rate Limits: Graphics control panels often limit the frame rate of games running in the background to save power.
    • NVIDIA Users: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Manage 3D Settings, look for Background Max Frame Rate, and set it to Off.
    • AMD Users: Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, go to Gaming > Graphics, and ensure features like Radeon Chill or Frame Rate Target Control are not heavily capping background applications.
  • Disable Optimizations for Windowed Games: A recent Windows update enhanced how windowed games interact with the Desktop Window Manager, which can sometimes throttle out-of-focus windows.
    • Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
    • Click on Default graphics settings.
    • Toggle Off the option for Optimizations for windowed games.
  • Disable Windows Efficiency Mode: Windows may automatically classify a background game as a low-priority process.
    • Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
    • Go to the Details tab and locate your game’s .exe file.
    • Right-click the process and check if Efficiency Mode is active. If it is checked, click it to turn it off.

However since you state that sometime all windows are heavily hit, and even the focus window the focus window, then there are also some problematic windows updates that change the scheduling around and other security features like this:

Are these settings for Windows 11 ?

I am running Windows 10 Professional Workstation.

Because Windows 10 does not have any of those settings you mentioned.

I run a clean install of Nvidia Drivers only, for the last 10 years, no NVIDIA control panel.

I use DDU Driver Uninstaller and NVCleanstall to load video drivers.

And has worked perfectly fine for ever until these last 2 months and the only that has changed is EVE, I run a lot of 3D software and have no issues with any other programs.

I run the 3D stress test on the video card and it passes with flying colors.

So I am stumped to what it is, and it is not the OS and the Video cards.

interesting it is.
