In light of what’s already been thoroughly discussed by Arthur Aihaken (and others), I still felt like sharing a few personal thoughts based on my own experience as a solo player.
I’ve tried some of the new Freelance Jobs introduced with EVE: Legion, and I genuinely think the concept holds promise — especially for connecting independent pilots with corporations in meaningful ways.
That said, after completing a few contracts (ratting in specified systems, mainly), I noticed that aside from the ISK, there’s no sense of progression, no visual history, and no reputation system that would make me feel like I was building something as a freelance contractor.
Maybe this is just the beginning, and I’m sure the feature will evolve. I just wanted to offer this perspective in a constructive tone, without disregarding the critical issues others have already pointed out.
Thanks to CCP for the continuous development, and to the community for sharing your insights.
There is a lack of sense of meaning (Story arcs or reputation)
To turn that into features -
Do you think something like having a lite standing / overview of what Corp’s you’ve interreacted with could be useful?
[Corp 1] 3 jobs, ### isk, Contacts [in-game name 1, in-game name 2]
[Corp 2] 1 job, ###isk, Contacts [in-game name 1]
Where in-game name has been the job posters?
Reputation could be interesting if the game tracks that - and certain jobs can be offered by vendors at reputation levels, basically graduating that contact to filter / sift through people over time.
I agree — it wouldn’t take much to give the system more depth.
A simple log of completed jobs, ISK earned, and who posted them would help build a freelancer identity.
Light reputation mechanics to unlock more job types over time could make it all feel more meaningful.
It’s the end, I’m afraid. CCP is more or less shutdown now for the summer until September, so I wouldn’t expect to see much if any iteration in Freelance. I think there’s a Jun 3 “patch” that might be a bit more than a patch, but that’s basically it for the foreseeable future.
At some time in the Freelance development, they need to add a reputation/quality feedback from those players that accept an offer. Over time, hopefully it would present a clearer picture of scams and “heads up” for the newer players, while allowing older players to sort thru the chaff.
