From Extraction To Production: Update

Please do not overthink PI. The reason nobody does it is because it is cancerous to set up, particularly on gas planets where messing up placement by a couple pixels can cause your links take too much power and require cutting an extractor head. If you want to take a look at PI, here’s what needs to happen:

  1. Hex grid PI, and no more links. Facilities adjacent to each other automatically link and no more fussing over literal single pixels and giving yourself carpal tunnel trying to finely tune placement.

  2. Save setups, and copy/paste to new planets. For the love of god. PLEASE!

  3. Ability to move goods from launch pads to Pocos without needing to be in system. Minor thing, and you could add a fee for doing this while not in system and it would be worth it.

Literally, that’s all you’d need to do and people would be doing PI.

So much yes. Snap to grid!

Which could lead to an art overhaul - or, um, the introduction of actual art. The pins and lines we have been stuck with looks like temporary developer-art. If you are a function over form person - np, its 100% functional! But from the start of the feature, I kept hoping to see it evolve to the placement of 3d models of these “buildings” represented by the pins, on a planetary terrain (for surfaces that have terrain, lol.)

Cool thx for the reply

I thaught it was only for ore

Guess what? It has always been like that (well, as far as I know for only playing since January…)

Take the Veldspar for example. Veldspar is NOT a mineral or a material you can use to do anything. You have to reprocess it to get the mineral (tritanium). And when you reprocess the veldspar, guess what, there is waste and you can’t get the full 400 unit of tritanium. I know, I know, there was a time back in the days where I didn’t know Eve was a thing and apparently you could reprocess and get 100%.

But this is not all.

100 unit of Veldspar is 10m3 in volume. Once reprocess, with my veldspar reprocessing level 5 in Perimeter T2 tower, I get 76.7% efficiency. Once these 100 unit of Veldspar are reprocessed, I end up with 306 units of Tritanium which is 3.06m3 in volume. Even if you could reprocess 100% of the tritanium, you would have 4m3 of tritanium from the 10m3 of Veldspar.

So there you have it, I have wasted about 70% of the Veldspar I mined. Because Veldspar in itself is useless. It is the vains of Tritanium within the Veldspar that we are after.

Just like in some standard mine I guess. You blow up a big chunk of a mountain, put all the rocks in one of those huge mining truck, and it drives it to the reprocessing plant. Now, you can imagine a civilization 20 thousand-ish year more advance than we are, can find ways to be more efficient in anything they do compared to us.

Edit: The new waste mechanic has to go. At least for all mining laser/strip miners, to the exception maybe to the type C crystal, which has its own role. If CCP only wanted to add 20-50-80% of minerals in the game, they just have to increase the ressources accordingly.

Totally agree with your post other than this bit. PI as a gameplay mechanic is boring, qol improvements will help, but there’s no way such a boring UX should be so intrinsically linked to so many things. The indy changes need rolling back, remove PI from blueprints or heavily reduce the amount needed.

@CCP_Rattati has been caught out, he’s on quote talking about how fun the mechanics of PI are for new players, that was a misjudgement and we’re now stuck in limbo because to regress back now puts him personally in the line of fire for advocating for PI in such a strong way.

CCP are in a pickle with this one, no question! PCU is sliding and they’re throwing mud at the wall to see what sticks.

It is brand new from about 1 day.

The idea of PI and starting it is fun. However, what makes PI difficult is the continued process.
PI is not scalable nor something that is fun long term. It definitely needs a lot of love

Is there an official line on the P1 materials getting removed from moon ore or is it reddit speculation?

I didn’t find the setup too bad, but was only running 10 planets across in Esoteria, it was more the transporting: moving products to factory planets, moving your final products to somewhere where you can then JF them out to market. It was all just lots of tedious logistics stuff, I got bored of it in a few weeks and haven’t touched it since.

It’s nowhere near as fun as mining where I can be in a fleet chatting with 20 people on comms or super ratting rock havens, running 10/10 DEDs, joining def/off fleets with alliance, daytripping WHs or running relics.

PI just isn’t as engaging and fun as any of the alternative activities above for me and that’s a problem when PI is now such a big part of indy imo. They need to focus on what players enjoy instead of forcing players to do certain things without care for whether players want to do those things.

Correct. PI starts off as fun and something that could be cool, but once you actually get into it, its a pain.
I’m just a small fry and run 36 planets in a wh and 24 planets in LS. I’d like to increase my WH PI and can but I am just not excited about the amount of work that is needed for it right now.

Read it from the official CCP team member who post regularly in this thread.

After some lengthy conversations we have decided for this release to withdraw ALL changes to Ubiquitous Moon Ores in relation to their refined materials . This means they will retain their current Pyerite and Mexallon quantities and their extraction rate will be doubled as per all other moons.

So when will this update take effect?? officially??

Probably within the next month. However, I would rather CCP not rush this cause people want it. I would rather they keep listening to our feedback and making changes accordingly so that we can have a good update that most of us are okay with, over a rushed updated.

ditto
i hope your right

Considering they have made amends to the update twice already, I think we are on the right track.

Many many words in the English language have multiple meanings, especially when slang is taken into account.
Context certain words are used in can have very different meanings and reactions from others

EG; From Urban Dictionary
Slag

  • to spit.
  • a woman whom sleeps around, looks cheap &/or has questionable character.
  • the waste product of the steelmaking process.

I dare you to walk up to my ex and call her a slag… In fact I’ll give you 100 dollars if you do as long as I can watch

Or quit.

Which I think is his point.
People are getting tired of Devs pissing in their pockets and saying it’s good for them.

I could have sworn that waste was what you couldnt refine… guess I was wrong!

Dev and some pvp player who are happy to all nerf because it means newbro will have hard toime to catch health to be able to defend against they don’t get it.
They think people will continue to play when they get insult by a part of the community and dev.
