Again, context is the key.
My original reply to Mike was a tongue in cheek response. A bit of fun.
The quote you responded to was in response to a guy who I figured may not be aware of how in the English language the same word can have several meanings.
As for the word itself, “slag” - “Tailings” is more appropriate for losses during the ore collection process.
This are good changes your posting here @CCP_Psych
BUT
It kinda feels like your taking back some of your sillyness Only to come back and put them all into the game at a later time When theres less attention on it
I whould still like to know how you manage to get from
Increasing the resistance profiles of all exhumers
Increase the base HP of, and adding mid slot to, Covetor and Retriever
Adding new gas harvesters for all mining barges and exhumers
To hitting them with the nerf bat ? The Procurer you even tag-teamed (your ruining a perfectly good mining barge)
Are you still planning to do all the silly changes to the mining ships ?
PS1 PI has nothing to do in moons !
PS2 Quantum Cores needs to go !!
Great, but how does removing mid-slots from the Procurer achieve this?
Reducing mid-slots reduces the natural tank on barges, AND it reduces flexibility/utility. You tell us you love seeing us flying ships differently, then push us to reduce the number of ways we can fly ships!
Adding a single low slot and a bit more hull HP does NOT make up for reducing the mid-slots. Not even close.
I don’t want to see barges as invincible - that’s pointless, there needs to be risk. But I want to see options, rather than a cookie-cutter mentality where there’s a more limited number of “valid” fits for the ships in question.
No, it means most of his ‘points’ were already addressed in the posts he’s responding to, and insisting ‘I am teh expart with teh big mining carp!’ while posting from an NPC corp completely undermines his appeal to authority.
They’re survivable enough. We used exhumers in null all the time before the Rorq/boosting overhaul, even without a booster in system. We just paid attention to local and the regional intel channels. And we will again. I’d rather risk my Macks than my Rorqs. But yes, I agree, gimping the Skiff like that is just dumb.
The big thing keeping exhumers from being useful in null isn’t their EHP, it’s getting them to the moons. Mining rocks or ice, you’re basically staying the same system—no exposure on gates etc. Mining moons… nobody’s gating a mining fleet down a pipeline constellation where hostiles will be roaming. The upcoming changes to the Rorq and the Industrial Portal Generator should make that a lot easier.
Since the Kryos is the mineral industrial, shouldn’t this ship get a “Ice Products Hold”, not a “Ice Hold”. Wouldn’t that fit better in the role of this ship. At the moment you can’t put “Ice Products” in the “Mineral Hold”, even they are ice minerals.
The Miasmos has the new Mining Hold, which chan hold ice, ore and gas.
So the logic would be to remove the Ice Hold from the Kryos and just make the Mineral Hold be able to hold ice products.
Now, this is more in line with abundance! Seems like CCP addressed most of the issues I had… Only slightly nerfing orca mining yield but giving drone speed bonus, giving so much needed tank to barges, removing 100 % waste from drones… Very nice changes! waiting for compression implementation
Oh right almost forgot… the reduction of all PI volumes! Amazing! much needed change…
Asteroid Belt Rocks were removed from Nullsecs in the resource redistribution patch last year. The Asteroid Belts themselves (Celestial Beacons, Belts Rats, …) were removed with the scarcity patch in spring.
Lowsec still has belts, but the respawn rate has been reduced, and the diamond miners usually have finished off anything that spawns before player realize that it has respawned.
Highsec still has belts, most of them have a lot of rocks inside whenever you look, but most rocks are scoopable with 5~10 strip miner cycles, which has caused the miners to stop doing belt mining and redirect their attention to ice, where whales can sit for hours before each rock is scooped, instead.
I think your math is a little off. A full ice asteroid is only 140-150 units. We can get our cycles times well under 60 seconds. So if you’re harvesting two units every 50 seconds, the rock lasts barely an hour, not “hours”.
And that’s ignoring the fact that you have to make a run to station, or do something about your hold being full, every 10-12 minutes (in absolute best case - Retriever with 27K Ore Hold)
So I really don’t think you’ve been mining much ice lately…
The Highsec Ice rocks are smaller then the similar named ones in null then, which have ~180 units.
I’m well aware barges can scoop the rocks quickly, in my hulks take 38 seconds per cycle I think. However, whenever I enter a highsec ice belt, there’s barely any barge or frigate at all. It’s just whales whereever I look (ok, in Nakugar I spotted 2 procurers yesterday… and 15 whales). Whales take way more then a minute per block, and they also have only one drone, unlike a barge, which has 2 ice harvesters
You can scan their hauler down and clap it in order to get SKINs that aren’t obtainable, and you can also use them to force content on those who try to avoid it. I think they’ve been recently patched to also pod players they clap, so you can help other capsuleers, especially the afk-miners that were too lazy to wreck the local diamonds before starting to afk-mine, to get rid of their expensive implantset (on top of usually not so inexpensive ships) by pushing the diamonds on them. This is especially useful if you would otherwise not be able to “send the message” yourself (blue standings, lack of firepower, …)
the skins who are “barely” worth 2m isk in jita is not even worth to kill, the only reason to clap the hauler is just to bug the miner fleet so they stop mining the dam belts
that will be a good adivice if the"REAL" afk mines, gotafk in sistem with pirate strongholds witch is not the case
usualy the new-bros are the only one who dont check if there are pirate strongholds
and sadly the diamonts dont hold for too much because THANKS TO CCP the pirate strongholds are one of the only 3 pve contents which are worth to do in hs
But the key question is, does it happen? I have yet to see specifics/charts about the use of the Expedition Frigates. The Endurance is not covert-ops capable, in an environment where it is strongly preferred. Plus the resources within Shattered WH are not unique or distinctive in anyway that makes the effort of locate and logistics compelling. I fly them because they are endearing, rather than effective.
the point i’m making is they strip a site (like in low-sec, sometimes 3 npc mining fleets from different corps will strip a large site in a few hours) and then the site fails to despawn next DT, which causes the site to stay in space for 3-5 days it seems before it respawns somewhere, the same thing happens with the medium jaspet sites, now if CCP really wants to have the 'age of prosperity, wouldn’t it be appropriate for CCP to cause the sites to respawn like they used to? maybe it’s a bug with the NPC’s mining the last ore idk, seems to be the case, since if i use my miners to mine the last roid then the site despawns fine, maybe it’s also linked to the fact that CCP stopped the DT regen in ore anoms? but surely at that rate the reason for the NPC mining fleets being created in the first place is now null and void. the SKINs were simply a deal sweetener for the introduction of the NPC fleets.
NPC mining fleets seem to prefer anoms over belts for some reason too.
